Transformers Nominated to National Toy Hall Of Fame Class of 2009

Just a few months ago we heard great news as the Transformers Toy franchise saw the recognition it deserved by being inducted into the Toyfare Hall of Fame. Now, on the heels of an amazing release of the live action films sequel, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, we get news of another possible induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame!

Thanks to fellow Seibertronian and Transformers fan Mathew Henderson, we get word that Transformers was nominated as one of the twelve finalists to be inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, New York in November. Only two of the twelve inductees will get the honor and just getting nominated is no easy task. Here are some of the stipulations, taken from the Strong National Museum of Play, home of the Hall of Fame:

• Icon-status (the toy is widely recognized, respected, and remembered)
• Longevity (the toy is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed popularity over multiple generations)
• Discovery (the toy fosters learning, creativity, or discovery through play)
• Innovation (the toy profoundly changed play or toy design)

While we can only hope that Transformers finds its way into the National Toy Hall of Fame, we can be extremely pleased that it was given a nomination for it. For a full list of inductees, click here. You can visit the Strong National Museum of Play and see all the inducted toys by clicking here.

Seibertron.com will keep you posted on the Class of 2009 Toy Hall of Fame induction so keep your optics locked, right here at Seibertron.com, Your Ultimate Transformers Resource!

I concur, Convotron. Transformers should definitely be put into a Hall of Fame!

Just getting nominated means something, but seriously. If Transformers doesn't make the cut, I don't know who the heck deserves to! Bravo, bots and cons, bravo.

I was wondering when the Transformers would make it into the Toy Hall of Fame. I only live 20 minutes away from the museum. I was there just this past Sunday and they do have a few transformers plus a 1985 catalog sheet of the Autobot cars in the display cases. Some of the transformers are mistransformed, so I shot them an e-mail about it :D

For those of you that have never been to the Strong National Museum of Play, there are lots of toys ranging from dolls and old toy cars to the earliest gaming consoles and action figures. Stop by there sometime for a day, for it is a museum that needs a spent day to take it all in :)

What, pray tell, can be learned from Cabbage Patch Kids and when did they reach 'icon status'? They were a fad.

I'm sure TF can trump some of the others, but it's going to be quite a challenge to trump such champion toys as the Rubik's Cube, or even the almighty "The Ball".

Anyone take a gander at the opinion poll?

The Ball (12.3%)

Big Wheel (15.5%)

Cabbage Patch Kids (7.6%)

The Game of Life (6.3%)

Hot Wheels (9.1%)

Nintendo Game Boy (6.9%)

Paper Airplane (3.8%)

Playing Cards (5.7%)

Rubik's Cube (6.3%)

Sidewalk Chalk (2.8%)

Toy Tea Set (3.8%)

Transformers (19.9%)

Popular opinion says Transformers should make it in. Hmm, I wonder what the virtual equivalent of a hanging CHAD is?

But I'm quite surprised Hot Wheels and the Rubik's Cube isn't already in there. Sidewalk Chalk, Tea Sets, Paper Airplanes, Playing Cards and "The Ball" shouldn't even be considered though. After all, no one company or organization can really be given credit for any of those ideas(well, maybe playing cards, or tea sets on the basis of "we marketed it first").

But really, a paper airplane? How is that even a toy?

Well a card board box won its way into the National Toy Hall of Fame 8-}

Do you play with paper airplanes or fly paper airplanes? If you play with them, it is therefore a toy. If you fly paper airplanes, well then, it depends on whether you think flying is play or work

Playing cards have been marketed since the early 1700s. The first card deck marketed was a German bible-oriented game with over 300 cards.

(It's cool, I'm honored. How'd it happen though?)
