G1 "extra" merchandise

Hi folks,

I've been a long time visitor at seibertron.com and have trawled through a mlot of the galleries here. I'm wondering if there is a category for the "extra" merchandise that came out around 83, 84, 85 etc. I ask because I've recently picked up some interesting bits and pieces that seem pretty rare, but I couldn't find much in terms of images, even over all the internet. Does such a gallery exist? To give an idea of the kinds of items I'm talking about:

Time Warrior (mailaway watch)
Soundwave (real)cassette player
Durham industries walkie-talkies and AM radio
Jetfire glass plate

Appreciate anyone's help with this, and I'd love to see a gallery of these transformers artefacts somewhere :)

Hey there, welcome to the boards!

I have no idea, but I'm moving this to the toys section where hopefully someone far more knowledgable than I can help you out.

No expert, but sounds like some of those (if not all), deserve a gallery ^^

I have the cassette player Soundwave, the original Optimus Prime voice changer helmet and even an Optimus Prime head cookie jar. I've only seen a hand full of images of them anywhere.
As a start, I took these pics of the cassette player Soundwave back in 2007 (before the Music Label version came out.) The tape deck does close but I can't find any pics with it shut!

Whoah. That is one weird Soundwave. Nice score zodconvoy! Are those Stalker repaints incarnations of Soundwave? They used a lot of late G1s in Machine Wars.

Is the watch a tiny metallic grey jet or robot? I have two transforming watches and do not remember where they came from.

Yes, the gray and crimson one is Machine Wars Soundwave and they used the mold again for the first Universe line. I picked the both up for only a couple buck each in the Carbombia section a few years ago.

I had the gray jet watch your talking about when I was a kid (I used it as Leader-1 from Gobots) but Time Warrior is actually an Autobot insignia that splits in half to show the time. Here's a link to the TFwiki page.

Thanks, I remember that watch now. I saved desperately to order Overdrive, when it finally arrived, it was a stupid powerdasher instead, with a letter saying that the deal for the Omnibots had expired. NZ has always been behind, I never saw a transformer with the powerdashers mentioned in the paperwork for a year afterwards.
I was so thrilled to pick up Overdrive on eBay a couple of years back!

I would like to see a gallery of the weird merchandise stuff too. I am sure I have some floating around. I keep some of my G1 parts in an old Transformers pencil case with Sunstreaker and Prowl on it.

The problem with the idea of a gallery for these things is they don't do anything. In order to make that Soundwave interesting I had to bury it in related things. My cookie jar is just an enlarged G1 Optimus head cast in ceramic. It is cool but it it would have a two picture gallery: lid on & lid off. Same with the cassette player, a pencil case, a lunch box and a million other nostalgic thing we had as children. They are awesome in person but ultimately they just wouldn't support galleries. Plus to be offical galleries, Ryan would have to track all this extra stuff down instead of say, putting Lil' Lizzietron through college!

Very true. We are spoilt rotten already by the wonderful galleries here. Getting a gallery of random TF merchandise would be a mammoth task with little reward.

The Jetfire glass plate sounds interesting. Does it actually have the trademark "Transformers" logo on it or is it just a picture of Jetfire? If it's the latter, it might be a Veritech from Robotech plate mistaken for Jetfire. I've never seen it though, but I'd like to.

Anyway, I have a few pics of my own to contribute: Optibrush Prime!

Found this at a yard sale some years back. Not sure how rare it is though.

Oh, and is it just me, or are the pics not "stretching" anymore?

Thanks for the input guys. You're right, there probably is a stupendous amount of transformers affiliated stuff, particularly if you don't limit it to a G1 gallery. On the other hand, the completist in me would like to see photos of everything G1 - you're right, we're spoilt by the quality and number of galleries here! I guess I was trying to imagine what I would like to see if I knew that an item existed, but couldn't find pics of it anywhere. And I guess I'm also feeling a little selfish since the time warrior is MIB (with instructions) and the soundwave is MISB. Maybe I should post pics in the collections section? :???:

It's seen better days, but here's mine, which I won at a church fair way back in the day.

This thread is awesome.

I've also seen a few pairs of Optimus Prime sunglasses floating around. They're just like typical 1980s sunglasses, but in G1 Transformers packaging.

It's a frame. Heavy paper, but a frame.

Right now there's not much holding the picture together aside from clear packing tape (you can see the cracks in the glass, and the parts where the image has pulled away). I wish I'd taken better care of it, but accidents happen. :(

Here's a few pics of stuff I'm talking about:

Jetfire Plate.jpg
time warrior.jpg
gun.jpg
radio1.jpg
sunnies.jpg

Even though they don't necessarily transform, I'd still love to see a G1 gallery of more of this type of stuff!!
