Is Dragoyell really worth $1000?

I stumbled across this auction today:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0344083301

Is this really right or is the seller hoping someone is foolish?

I expected maybe $200 for Dragoyell, tops.

Hydra is selling that hunh?

Well, if what he says about the initial reports of 2000 units being produced being wrong, then...as a Lucky Draw...it might not be off base.

That being said.

No way.

You want to know my limit? There it is. If that toy was produced in the low double digits, then it might as well not even exist to me. Pieces like this, in my opinion, are the biggest trap to collectors. Sure, you/we/I want them, but the demand is created upon a false model. Takara could just produce a round of 20 or so of these any time they want and there would be nothing special about them other than the exclusivity.

Don't think this changes how I feel about exclusives. Things like BotCon toys or even Japanese convention exclusives are limited, but everyone has an equal chance to obtain them from the beginning. Not so with these LD type releases.

Also?

That is the ugliest Micron I've seen. It honestly looks unfinished. I'd probably sell it if I were the owner as well. :?

I would only give $50 to $80 for it. I could see listing it for $1000 yen.

Yeah, I think if this is the truth, Dragoyell ends up in the "Only if I win the lottery" pile, like Shining Unicron and the other Lucky Draws.

I thought Dragoyell was in the same round of figures with Skyglide, Wedge Shape, and Torque Gain.

A thing is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If someone is willing to pay $1000, then it's worth $1000 to them.

Counterpunch nailed that. There's a limit for collectors... and that's just it.

He is. Lucky Draw, my fluffy tail on my rear fender. He's no more than a mailaway item!

For clarity sake, Hydra is saying that there is a misconception that Dragoyell was simply a mailaway item.

He's not saying that Dragoyell is a Lucky Draw, he's saying that Dragoyell was produced in Lucky Draw-style quantities.

Dragoyell was surely a mail-away item. Seriously though? I've seen one, just one, in all my time Micron hunting. It was sold to a dude in a very hushed and frantic manner at BotCon 08. It looked like a drug deal because the buyer did not want other people looking over his shoulder as he purchased it.

By comparison, I've seen just about every Lucky Draw item in recent history sold, many of them 2 or 3 times.

Something is up with Dragoyell and his availability. Personally, I think that it was a mailaway that either kids got the majority of and they're lost to time and trash or it was a mailaway that no one cared or knew about and it slipped away.

Either way, the results are obvious; the figure is near impossible to find.

Whatever the case, I like how dude is asking $20 shipping and handling. Can't even throw in free shipping on a $1000 figure. But I suppose if you're crazy enough to drop $1000 on it, what's another 20?

It's probably for the insurance...

$1000 for a mini-con? A MINI-CON?? I don't care if it's a lucky draw or some other kind of exclusive, for a thousand bucks, it'd better something you can show off proudly in a display case, not something that looks like it could get lost under the couch or something.

I've seen larger, more impressive Lucky Draws not that didn't cost that much. Primus help me, the things people waste good money on.....

Is this made out of solid gold (die-cast!) and painted to look cheap? That might justify the price.

Gold is inherently worthless. The only reason it's valuable is because it's scarce and people are willing to pay a lot for it. Same with Dragoyell. Things are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. Why would anyone pay $1 million for a Picasso? It's just paint on a canvas. The answer is because it's a rare item and collectors want it for their collection. Same with Dragoyell. Why would a stamp collector pay thousands for a little piece of paper that they can't even use to mail something? Because it's rare and they want it for their collection. Same with Dragoyell. It's no different than a rare coin or a rare stamp. It's worth whatever a collector is willing to pay for it.

nope, never got one. but in OCtober 2008, when I officially stopped collecting, TWO Dragoyells appeared online. It was honestly very irritating, as I chased DAILY a Dragoyell for at least one year.
I passed it for 180$ when TFan2 from TFW2005 got it from Hydra on ebay (I think it was the month of its release) and never found another one in time.
I would have paid 500$ right away for it, but not 1000$. For that money I would have gotten a LD ML Black Meggy off somebody, sparing some money as well.
Dragoyell is indeed very rare. I guess it's the new Space Galaxy Destruction team :D
IIRC, it was the only minicon I didn't have that was not a LD, prototype or unreleased item.

With a Dragoyell she cried- "more, more, more"
