I know his name is Rodimus, but that's reserved for when i get the Protector upgrade. ;>_>

So I just received him about a day ago, and I can't get an epic pose out of him. Anyone have display pics?

Unfortunately Rodimus is a little limited in the shoulder area, so it hampers what you can do with him.

Still he does look cool overall, my only other gripe is his missile.

Now I'm happy I bought mine for about 1,5$ a year ago, loose without the launcher or the missile (not missing any of those)

It's not really a great mold, and I've yet to find any pose for him that even approaches "epicness". He's one of those figures that's just... there.

Now, if you get that custom trailer upgrade set that's coming out, THEN you might have something epic.

On my Classics shelf I have Rodimus leading the Autobot pack against the Decepticons. I think it's suitably epic.

A couple of thoughts: Hot Rod is one of those toys that has genuinely grown on me over the years. At first I thought he was a poor representation of one of my favorite characters. But now, a couple of things I discovered about the toy made him so much more appealing.

1) His feet have stabilizers that flip out on the bottom - I know, maybe bit obvious, but I wasn't aware of them for several months. The lack of balance disappointed me until I found them.

2) Displaying without the missile - the launcher by itself compliments the toy perfectly. As others have said, putting the missile away makes the toy look cooler. That's not to say I don't appreciate the missile's subtle design to double as some kind of nitro boost-flame thing - I just don't like it. Personal preference.

3) The waist glides forward - I didn't discover this until a few weeks ago, but the waist actually moves forward allowing for a bit more mobility in the shoulders. Yes, I totally agree with everyone that the shoulder articulation is the weakest part of the toy, but now I know Rodimus has more room to rotate his shoulders, and it allows for more dynamic poses.

Also, we still don't know what the trailer/armor kit will look like. No negativity towards FP, but we haven't even seen a prototype yet. I'm reserving my judgment for now.

I have Classics Rodimus/Hot Rod displayed similar to It Is Him. :)

The figure isn't among the best of the Classics and Universe line but I think it's a good figure. I love the look of the bot and alt modes. The range of shoulder articulation is due to the design(How do you make a Rodimus/Hot Rod that is based mainly on the G1 character design without hindering the shoulders somewhat?).

I wonder how much articulation the figure will have when combined with the Protector upgrade? The Classics Voyager Optimus Prime figure has some of its range of articulation taken away due to the City Commander upgrade.

Wow, personally I think Henkei Hot Rod is one of my favorite if not my favorite classics figure.
I too was disappointed when i first got him but after playing with him you soon realize he has several easily missable adjustments to make his transformation more perfect.

when I fist got him I didn't know how to fold up the flaps fully on his legs.

there is also a mod you can do so it can open the top of the car to reveal the seats.

I also display it with out the missile, not really sure it is a missile though, I think its supposed to be a flame thrower or something.

G1 Hot Rod's blasters both fit into his hands perfectly. That how I display him. With both of his blasters in hand and his own firmly on his back.

Have to agree, though I think there are better Classics figures based on poseability alone.

However, the likeness to his G1 appearance is probably the best in the whole Classics line. The only thing missing is a completely different transformation from the previous time you changed him into alt mode.

Seriously, he looks awesome.

As for how I pose him:

Hot Rod tends to hunch over at the waist very easily, as if the weight of the world and/or Autobot Matrix is too much to handle for his fragile shoulders.

Therefore, he is in said pose before my Masterpiece Prime, who is giving a thumbs-up, as if to say "Worry not, young one. Little did you know back in '86 that I would be killed and reincarnated several times over by Hasbro, so I forgive you. However, when I need your help, I'll ask for it you dipsh*t."

He was the first TF I bought since giving up on G1 in the 80's cos I was frustrated at lack of pose-ability, therefore I though he was awesome. After buying others I realised he is a bit crap.

Shoulder articulation can be improved a little by popping his shoulder balls out of the cup and carefully pushing them in enough to not fall out, but not enough to 'pop' back in. It's only a little improvement but it helps.

I did not know that the waist slides forward. Makes a little bit of difference now.

Why is everyone complaining about Classics Hot Rod. He's still better than a lot of toys out there. And I may knock myself for saying this, but he's better than the Titanimu version, and still has more mobility than Energon Rodimus.

I'm lucky I still have mine!!!

I have him with both arms up, as if firing away with his arm cannons. Universe Sideswipe is borrowing his gun, but I have my original Targetmaster Firebolt staning in front of him, ready to spring into his hands!

I recently put him with his arms up, Titanium Rodimus aiming his gun at him. And Energon Rodimus Stands in the back keeping a look out.

Overall, and strangely enough Titanium Rodimus seems to have the best poseabiity out of the three of them.

Well, the City Commander upgrade ended up looking very close to the concept images shown beforehand, so I'm confident that Protector is going to look epic. I think they have shown a vehicle mode prototype, haven't they? Ah, yes: http://www.fansproject.com/?page_id=347

Yeah, Classic Roddy ain't the best of the Bots, but he's pretty cool nonetheless. I also display him without the missile, and only found out about the waist sliding forward fairly recently. I knew about the heels from day 1 though.

I'm just not sure Protector creates the same need that City Commander was able to fill so well. Honestly, I really enjoy Rodimus the way he is, but I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude with this one - even though I'll probably still buy it no matter what :-B

I feel the same way. To me, Ultra Magnus needs the trailer armour components to really be Ultra Magnus. A white repaint of Optimus Prime never feels right to me.

Hot Rod/Rodimus, on the other hand, is fine as it is and I think the Classics rendition of the character is great. The Protector upgrade will be a nice upgrade for me but nothing vital.

I just think it makes him look 75% more badass, which is always a good thing. XD I'm just biding my time until there's a preorder, which I will jump on immediately.

The real choice for me will be whether to put the Protector armor on Classics Rodimus or Henkei Rodimus...

I didn't pick up the Henkei version, so that decision is pretty easy for me.

Would it help any if I told you that the Henkei version is totally rad?

I'm really not sure how you sleep at night without one... :-?

I just don't like the spoiler.

There are Henkei figures which are superior, like Astrotrain, Hound, and Smokescreen. There are figures that are just different, like Cyclonus and Mirage. And then there are US releases that are better for me, like Galvatron, Octane, Bumblebee, and Prime. Some are just "meh", like Cheetor and Dinobot.

I can live without a Henkei Rodimus. I can't live without a Henkei Astrotrain.

After seeing your Henkei Grimlock, though, he got added to the list to buy. All that crazy vac metal really works.

Something to consider...

Now when Hot Rod (classics) upgrades to Rodimus Prime (via Protector), don't you think he should have some lovely chrome on him like Prime has chromed smokestacks? Hrm?

Sorry, just not swaying me on this. I had no intentions of getting Hound or Grimlock until seeing yours. But Roddy just doesn't do it for me.
