I was looking at the shattered glass figures and counldn't decide on thier paints.

are they the photo negative, mirror image, inverted colors of thier primary Universal G1 selves?

or

are they reflective opposites of someone equal in each faction?

anyone have an idea or a character list depicting the correct idiom?

SG Grimlock is clearly a Trypticon Homage
SG Sideswipe is based on the Battle-in-a-box G2 Drench homage that got cancelled a few years ago. (And consequently Whisper matches)
SG Starscream is using G1 Jetfire's theme
The Predacons "Micromasters"/Minicons match (roughly) their G1 selves

SG Rodimus is almost an in joke of himself, using (approximately) the colors that appeared on SDCC Menasor, which was a repaint of Titanium Rodimus
SG Jazz uses his normal G1 scheme

That's all I've got.

Optimus Prime is based on Galvatron's Scheme
Jazz is simply off-white
Goldbug is based off of Stealth Bumblebee

A better question would be which figures have original decos, as most characters have colors based on an obscure source. Here are some fiction-only ones, possible candidates for future toys:

Wheeljack: Energon Downshift with Action Master Slicer's colors. Slicer was a Europe-only repaint of AM Wheeljack.
Thundercracker: Colors are based on AM Thundercracker, released only in Europe. Neon goodness. :P
Dirge: Colors are from BWII Thrust. It's a safe bet SG Thrust will use BWII Dirge's colors
Sunstreaker: Classics Sunstreaker with Alt. Dead End colors.
Punch/Counterpunch: Colors by his fellow G1 Faction switcher Doubledealer.

The only real "original" decos come from the two Customising Class toys: Nightbeat and Thunderclash, as they use the same plastic colors as the original figures.

If you want an in-fiction explanation, however, I'm stumped :P
