Can you contact the reseller you bought it from, and see if they can replace him?

I have that problem, too, with my MP04, over the left chest panel...saw a lot of the same with different reviewers on you tube as well.
Plus, The right chest panel on mine has a broken/chipped-off piece of metal, which is the worst of all the problems! :-x
Some say the fault may be with the molds because it has been re-used a lot of times since the first model. When I lifted the side panels over the hip part, the year marked was Takara 2003, while the trailer was a more recent mold(2006, I think?).

Which makes me think about the upcoming MP01B (Nemesis) model. SAME MOLD + DIFFERENT PAINT = THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MP04 ALL OVER AGAIN?! :-?
Ergo, I suggest that when buying masterpiece toys, avail of the newest ones to avoid having too many disaapointments. Of course, you can always return or exchange the item!
MISB collectors beware!!!! 8-}

Hmm, that's so strange. I've heard a few complaints about the chest piece, but only a few. My MP-04 has been perfect in chest pieces, paint quality, etc. Sorry to hear you had a bad one. As mentioned before, see if you can contact your reseller (hopefully you got it from a large scale seller who'd be willing to work something out with you).

Well, I guess, I expected too much from the thing aside from the pricetag being that high. I just thought that they could control these problems at the factory itself, I mean its quite easy to see if there are gross defects...it made me think of this skit I'm running through my head:

Worker #1: Hey, Ching, I think I broke off a piece over here!
Worker #2: Do not worry, Cheng! Its called battle damage! People will still buy that!
Worker #1: Really?
Worker #2: Yeah! There are models that were precisely made to have battle damage! I don't think they would mind!
Worker #1: OK!

This is common, nothing you can or should do about it.

Except buy MP-01

I have a quality issue with my MP-04 also. In my case the left chest panel wouldn't open all the way. When I forced it, a small metal tab broke off leaving a gap. I was bummed as it happened the first day I got it, but now I just live with it. I still have the tab and am thinking of using gorilla glue to fix it.

Its still a great toy, all in all! Its just that, in my opinion, it could have always looked better if there weren't that many problems with it. When I read "masterpiece", I was thinking "perfection"! But now I know better!

I wouldn't mind trying to fix the chipped off part in my piece, its just that there isn't a piece to glue back on, he he he!

But that being said, Optimus Prime is Optimus Prime! And I wouldn't know if anyone else can come up with a better design than this piece. If given the chance again, I'd still buy it!

I've got an issue with my 20th Prime - the panels don't line up very well when they are closed, but it isn't too horrible. My MP-01 is perfect. I was shocked at how much better the quality seemed to be compared to the 20th Prime.

My 20th Prime has the same problem, but it's slight, so I don't realy care.

Are all the MP-01's really perfectly aligned?

My 20th Anniv Prime has a small piece of blu-tak holding his chest shut.

Mine stays shut fine, it's just slightly misaligned.

My 20th Anniversary OP seems fine. The chest panels don't seem to have any problems and I've transformed the figure a dozen times at least.

I occasionally have problems closing the chest on my 20th Prime (the pre-DVD one). It seems to happen more often if the headlight panels are mis-aligned during transformation. However, no issues in robot mode.
