My MP Prime might need a trailer!

Hello all,

I've been constantly debating back and forth in my head whether or not to purchase one of the after-market trailers for my Masterpiece Optimus Prime. Has anyone here bought one, and would they recommend it? Should I wait until the newer, transformable one becomes available, or is the older one "good enough"? Does he even need a trailer, or should I just be happy with his truck-mode awesomeness without one...?

Help!

Currently, there are two trailers in the market, one made by Justitoys, which is just a box on wheels, and an over-sized replica of G1 Prime's trailer. The former still pops up once in a while but the latter is almost impossible to find.

Fortunately, IGear is working on a new trailer based on the MP-4, but more correctly scaled (the MP-4 trailer is a bit off- scale).

Consider space! Will you display him (or play with him) much in truck-with-trailer mode? He will take up a lot of space.

Yeah, that's admittedly my biggest concern... While he would look awesome with his trailer behind him, it might drive my wife a bit nuts... and some other TFs would lose their space on the shelf so Prime could be complete. Mind you, at least one of the Alternators could hide out inside the trailer... ;)

I'll have to keep my eye on it. How much smaller is the MP-04 trailer than it should be?

Thanks for the replies so far!

I have the Justitoys trailer and have difficulty getting it to correctly hook up to Prime so that's something to keep in mind.

I have the Justoys one as well as the official one that came with my MP-04. The Justoys is actually very nice and mine doesn't have any problems connecting. On the down side it doesn't transform, it only opens for storage. They did a good job of matching everything up, suspension detailing, wheels, tires, colors, etc. In my opinion having a trailer really helps the MP Prime mold pull off alt mode. Mainly because it helps cover up the disproportionately large rear/leg area. If your in the market I guess you might as well wait until i-gear gets their upscaled hybrid style tailer out on the market.

Or they could pose on top like Prime is charging through a battlefield with them blasting away!

Not sure what the going rate is for the older ones these days, but I would probably just buy MP-04 before dropping over $100 for the upcoming iGear trailer. Then you have an extra prime to display in alt mode with the trailer as well as a Prime in bot mode. That's what I did...

Fair enough... but it comes down to need. I don't really NEED another Prime. I don't really need the trailer either, but I need it more than I need another Prime... Assuming this IGear trailer goes for about $110 (as per BBTS). It looks like MP-04 is going for around $200. So, that's $90 spent on a figure that I already have, when it could go towards something completely different (like another Alternator or a future, cheaper MP figure).

I completely understand where you are coming from though... I just wish that they (Hasbro/Takara) would release the trailer for the difference in price between MP-01 (originally) and MP-04. Fat chance, huh?

If it's the actual MP-01 and it's complete with box and everything you may be able to trade it in to BBTS for MP-04 even up...odd, but I think MP-01 is the more rare figure.

True, oddly enough... BBTS has MP-01 available for around the same price as MP-04... strange from a toy standpoint, but understandable from a collectible standpoint.

Alas, my Prime is the NA 20th release (not the DVD one) and his packaging has long since been lost between two moves. I guess I'm just stuck with him! ;)
