I've heard alot of bad reviews of this figure and I was going to get it until i realised so many people hated it. As far as I know its the only option apart from the G1 figure (excluding classics Galvatron and the Takara G1 reissue) and I would like a Galvatron figure but I'm not sure which one to get. Anyone own this figure or know if its any good?

I believe Energon Megatron's a pretty good homage.
The Henkei version has more show-accurate joints, being grey or purple rather than orange. However, he also has a chromed tank turret/arm. The Henkei version's joints also seem to be tighter.
As for this mold generally, it has a good robot mode and a good tank mode, but the transformation is complex, fiddly, and often causes parts to pop off. He's also pretty small.

I think he's a good figure, personally. Yes, he should have been a voyager, but he's a great little display piece. As a toy, he's pretty crappy because he falls apart quite a bit. But again, if you use TF's as display pieces rather than toys to play with, he'll look good posed beside Classics Cyclonus and Titanium Scourge.

I've got Universe Galvy posed with those two

Yes, his joints can pop off & he's small, but I think he's pretty awesome-looking. He has a very interesting transformation & the Henkei version looks great (e.g., coloring the forearms more accurately). I painted the face on mine silver & painted in his goatee to stand out a little more. He perfectly fits in with Cyclonus & Scourge:

He's not bad looking but the transformation is fiddly as hell and he's a bugger to stand up. He's not good at standing up straight but you will find him easier to stand in poses.

Thanks. I think ill get it (the henkei version) to display, although i probably will play with him anyway just for the hell of it. The chrome doesn't bother me as i am a sucker for anything chrome.

Personally I don't think he's a great figure, but he's not as terrible as many make him out to be.
I keep mine in alt mode, since I kind of dig the tank mode more than the bot mode. I have him sitting with my Unicrons (both black & orange). I have several Cybertron Unicrons (the tank mode one) and Galvie running around under their feet as heralds.
If you are after that mold though, save yourself some dough and get the US release. The henkei verion id better, but not that much better.
For my "Classics" collection Galvatron I'm using an Energon Galvatron.
Nice homage, large scale, all around an awesome Galvatron.

VS
An "OK" little herald.

I like Henkei Galvatron. I find the shade of purple nicer to look at, but more than that the black joints make him seem more of a calmer Galvatron (like the movie Galvy) as opposed to the "Lava bath" Galvatron Hasbro gave us (as I think of him).
The small size is either a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it. He's the first Galvatron EVER to be able to stand and look good next to Cyclonus and Scourge. I use Titanium Scourge for this. So if you want Unicron's minions all together and looking nice then Henkei or Universe Galvy is goo dfor you.
As a figure I tend to like the fiddly transformation. With practice you can transform him without anything falling off.
Energon is the superior Galvatron figure though. Pound for pound, the color, size, presence, and everything else is better. However, again, size is the thing here. He looks bad with Cyclonus and Scourge, but looks really nice next to MP Prime and Megatron (and, I expect, the smaller sized KOs that are coming out). Availability is a problem too ... Henkei Galvy, I believe, is more available than Energon Galvy.
