Looks like pre-orders are up for this guy already at $25.90 a pop. Kinda around the price range I thought. I might pick up 2 for Shadow commander.

I hope they realize sales of a Shadow Color toy will be miniscule in comparison to Rumble/Frenzy colors. It only really matters if the low sales mean that it prevents them from going through the effort of making it in alternate colors.
Looking forward to Rumble

I was hoping for $20 but Robotkingdom's price is not that far off, wonder what it would come to shipped to the US. BBTS has him up for $35, so I would guess about $40 shipped, way too high for something that small for me.

Well, RobotKingdom, since they're in Hong Kong, will charge about 15 to ship. So it'll end up at about the same price in the end.

Nor do I; however as a standalone figure, I'll take one.

I like the little guy as Rumble/Frenzy. But I just dont like the black Ultra Magnus. I dont see the point of a shadow Ultra Magnus, a Nemesis Prime, a Dark Jetfire, etc...Its like painting the seeker mold red and making it an Autobot.

I'll buy a red and a blue one. This connection to Shadow Commander is lame. (and I know the little dude is shown on the panel comic)

I'll probably get 2 for SC, call them Shakedown and ScrapIron. Then when the RED Rumble and BLUE Frenzy type figures come out, I'll be all over that as well. Makes me wonder what Rumble and Frenzy will transform into though? I mean the SC guys look badass already. Personally, I can never have enough new cons!!

Rated X, they make black versions of toys because there is a large collector's market for black variant (Nemesis) colored toys. Sure, most of them are TakaraTOmy exclusives, but they are quite popular amongst many collectors, myself included.
It is a good question as to why they went with the black version first. My best guess... to avoid the long arm of HASBRO's law department. With the black version at least it cannot directly be related to HASBRO's intellectual properties of Frenzy/Rumble, as it would if they were colored with their colors, as everyone wants. Black is a workable background palette, customizers could probably make their G1 versions without too much effort (at least I imagine).

Well that will never happen. Everyone knows that Rumble is BLUE and Frenzy is RED!!!!!
j/k, lets not start this again.
Back on topic.....oh yeah, pass.

You would think they would first saturate the market with red and blue versions first before trying to milk this mold with a black version.

I really don't think so because they would draw more attention from HASBRO, and may lose their business. Intellectual properties and all (as I mentioned above in response to the black colored question).

It's tactics. Make you think it's not coming, then do a "Limited Edition" in the more desirable colors to jack up both the demand and the price. See also: D.I.A. Commander.

Black may be the safest color for them to start with thus linking it to Shadow Commander but I'm fully expecting a blue one for my City Commander and a red one attached to Powered Convoy. That'll be the logic they'll use.

City Commander already looks like Ultra Magnus, they're releasing "Springer" soon, the Bruticus kit comes with a new appendage ... I think the warning bells have already gone off down at Hasbro.
I fully expect this to come out in blue and red. Maybe they just want to see how it sells. OIf they were so worried about color, "Springer" would be blue. That said ... not interested. In the end, they don't work with any Soundwave of any sort and so fail as Rumble / Frenzy / Black Frenzy. Rumble and frenzy were never Ultra Magnus' guys, nor Optimus Prime's guys. I suppose they could concievable be held by G1 Soundwave, but ... no. Just no.
Total pass.

Well when I preordered two of these and the Defender figure who is about 80, it came to about 150 total so idk, it depends on the weight with Robot Kingdom so I have no idea other then this.
