The upcoming Power Core Combiners will just about take me out.... Hopefully I can at least enjoy some of the Generations (Classics3) figures...

I know Counterpunch won't like it, but Energon just zapped me out. I wasn't ready for Transformers without Mini-cons.

I have very little love for either RotF and the 07 movie. But there's just so much out there that I don't think it's quite right to say I'm "out"...

TFTM and Animated have no figures on my shelves. ROTF has maybe 10 figures, almost all scouts, aside from Bludgeon and Mindwipe.
I'm hugely into the traditional style of TFs, not this deformed, or techno-skeleton look

No TF lines took me out, really(even though I skipped BWs). What took me out for a while was Power Rangers(first two seasons), a brief brush with paintball, and my introduction to Games Workshop(and wargaming in general).
Hard to keep multiple very cost intensive hobbies like that running at the same time when you're younger.
But when I really got back in I got back in HARD(my friend and I dropped $500 at a TRU in one day EACH, I'll see if I can find the pictures of the carts we took).

Had I still been buying transformers when Beast Wars reared its head, that would have done it for me. I remember working at TRU at the time and I was thinking wtf is this? I like animals, I like robots, just not the two mixed together.
Except for the Insecticons and the various cassettes, I love them.

Since I started collecting as a adult I haven't really lost interest in Transformers so far. However after being burnt by the QC on the first movie line, I have taken the time during ROTF to focus on other lines. I've gotten a few ROTF figures, and there are some good ones, the aesthetic just doesn't appeal to me as much since the movie hype has died down.

Beast Machines. Then Cybertron for a small while.

A line didn't so much take me out as the fact that they vanished off the shelves around here about during the time of the Masters line in G1, and I'm not even sure if G2 ever showed up around here. When Beast Wars came out, I was already in the US Marine Corps, so I wasn't collecting anymore. It took 20'th Prime and the Alternators to get me back.

G1 stopped me! I grew more and more frustrated at the lack of articulation (I was about 10) so I gave up on them. I had no idea G2 happened, BW didn't really excite me. BM and AEC passed me buy without me noticing but I doubt they'd have excited me either!

Nothing really took me out per se. Especially since I started collecting again as an adult during RID. Although with some really crappy stuff from the first movie and whiny "hardcore fans" it took me away enjoying the fandom. I'm not huge on the movie designs in general as toys but I have picked up a few I'm really enjoying. Mostly ROTF stuff. Movie toys in general just have no real place in my collecting focus though. Whether it's Marvel, TFs or otherwise.

Beast Wars TM Optimus Primal made me skip everything until I saw the ad of the Energon cartoon in the tv. At that time, I was thinking: First they make a pink dinosur of Megatron, and now a monkey transforms into a monkey??? (at that time, I didn't see the cartoon of BW)
Interesting, but now I'm collecting Transmetal figures.
Also, I skipped everything from RotF (and made a few good deals under the time that the sky-high priced movieverse figures were in the stores)

Nothing has ever taken me out though I bought very few figures during Beast machines, due to a lot of UK retailers not making much shelf space for them and there not being many good figures in that line. Energon and Cybertron occured at a time when most of my money was going on clubbing and fashion, so I didn't buy many figures then either. Those lines didn't turn me off though, it was just real life getting in the way.

I'd have to say it was the products that started coming out in the time of the "Action Masters". I was noticing how Tfs started lacking in complexity, how they started using fruity cheap looking colors, and I was particularly bothered by the Action Masters, which did not transform, and the plethora of crappy looking pretenders ( although I could kick myself nowdays for not having bought Monstructor! ). The fact that the box art went downhill didn't help in the appeal, and the changes they made to the faction insignias just plain sucked IMO.
At the time, Micromasters held no appeal for me. G2 seemed to be mainly repaints of items I already had peppered with a few unimpressive new molds ( though years later I would buy Laser Prime, Tanked Megs, the Cyberjets, and the Dreadwing/Starscream set ).
I started coming back with the release of Machine Wars, and afterwards on the advice of an acquaintance allowed myself to get sucked into Beast Wars, and the rest is hardcore addiction history...

Well, since I got back in I collected most everything.
The question for me is really where I drew the line. About two years ago, I purged my collection hard.
All Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and 2003 Universe toys essentially left the building. I ended up clearing out about two 18 gallon rubbermaid containers of figures that were full to begin with.
I just came to realize that many of those toys were not fun for me and were just burdening me with stuff. I also went about and got rid of duplicate shelf items that were of no value to me. Such as Alternator Battle Ravage and Alternator Grimlock, both of who were superceded by better figures.

As a kid I drifted away right around the time of Pretenders--I only had a couple (Octopunch and Roablock--who I actually loved). I don't even remember Action Masters. I came back with G2 (I also have some Micromasters that were still on the store shelves at that time).
I fell away again with Beast Wars--couldn't get into the CG cartoon or the toys (I only had one--the black and red Skorponok that shot a bee).
While I still remained a G1 toy and cartoon fan into adulthood, I didn't buy any new toys from later lines until I was given a movie one as a gift in 2007 before seeing the movie and I loved it.
Now I generally collect movie toys, with some Universe/Classics. I haven't gotten into Animated, RiD, or the A/E/C lines and I'll probably not get into the new PCCs.

I guess the line that replaced (I was never fully "out") was Star Wars: Power of the Force in the 90's. When I was a little kid in the early 80's, Star Wars was already the juggernaut of boys toys. As Star Wars faded out after Return of the Jedi, Transformers were on the rise. After Generation 2 sputtered out, Star Wars came back in a big way and claimed all of my teen years until Episode 1: the Phantom Menace. I bought everything. Then one figure made me realize how insane it was. In the later Episode 1 waves there was a figure of Jar Jar Binks is a swimming pose. Everybody hates him but everyone was spending a ridiculous amount of money on. Swept up in the fervor I found several in Toys R Us and was going to buy them all to sell. I tried to figure out a price based on how much it was going for online and how much
I would've been willing to spend. I came to about $45 each and I looked at it. It was Jar Jar Binks, swimming. I hate the character and the figure is retarded and it dawned on me, I may have a problem. I put them back and went cold turkey on Star Wars stuff. It all went into storage. I saw the new movies in theaters and I've bought maybe 5 Star Wars figures since. When Beast Machines ended and RiD began, it was like "look, it's safe to come back, they're cars again!" As much as I love RiD Optimus and Car Robots Black Convoy, it was MP-01 that cemented my full return to Transformers. Though I try not to be as...
obsessive as I was over Star Wars.

Nothing in particular took me out of it. I only buy what I like, and I didn't like the majority of the "newer" lines like Beast Wars, Armada, RiD, and whatever else I'm either forgetting or never heard of. They looked great in vehicle mode but were sloppy-looking robots. I sure as hell don't like the movie figures. Their robot designs are too weird for me.

I'm more or less the same. I stopped buying around the time of G1 Headmasters and such. I thought it was a cool concept but by then, I was out-growing the urge to play with them. I guess up until the Classics line, nothing has really grabbed my attention. Now, I buy only the figures that remind me of my favorites from those days. I'll make an exception for Drift, because he looks like a cool mold and he's the same basic style.
I only wish I had not given my G1 collection to my little (at the time) cousins. Their dad buried the entire collection in a concrete slab out of anger toward my cousins for falling school grades. Oh, the humanity!
