Seibertron.com member dragons has notified us that there seem to be problems with the 3rd party custom toys producer iGear.
When you visit their website you will notice that it's no longer there but has been replaced with a search engine and collection of ad links. This happens often when a website is no longer cost effective or dead, the owner will host a search engine to make at least a bit of money to help pay off their hosting.

It mustn't necessarily be iGear's fault that their site is no-longer there as they are a sub domain to tf08.net which is also no-longer there. The cause for this could be that they could no longer afford hosting or it could very likely be due to legal reasons. TF08.net has been known to leak and sell stolen prototypes , test shots and early production run toys.

IGear was known for their custom figures, especially for announcing many products and taking their time with releasing them, there have also been complaints about their quality being very low. Most recently they have been known for their announced miniature Master Piece Optimus Prime Knock Off. It is very likely that Hasbro or TakaraTomy have taken legal action due to this and other straight KO's of their figures.

Should you have pre-ordered one of their upcoming products, checking on their status and maybe even cancelling these might be a very wise decision!

This might be a false alarm and they might come back with a new website and domain but you can never be too careful.

We at seibertron.com will keep you updated on this subject.

I hope they aren't dead. I kinda wanted their KO MP Prime. And their mini Sharkticon 3 pack.

Not a good sign for their fortunes.

A dead website doesn't mean the company is dead. But who cares, they don't produce jack anyways. The site's been down for awhile too. I don't see what the fuss is all about.

My guess is Hasbro/Takara layethed the smacketh-downeth on their candy-asses. If they would have stuck to things like their Gear of War set they would have been fine. But if you just blatantly rip-off things like MP Prime, now you are asking to get bent-over hard by HasTak's lawyers.

It's a problem with the tf08.net domain, which igear is part of.

Most likely not an igear problem.

Maybe it's just the old address that doesn't exist anymore, I think you should use the following instead, which works:

http://www.igeartoys.com/

BTW, I've contacted them about 3 times in the last months and haven't got a single answer... but maybe it isn't related.

*looks at the page*

I didn't know iGear was the one who made the "Knight Morpher" figure. Unless they're suddenly sponsoring the creation for some reason.

Nope, they didn't make it. Mastermind Creations did.

It's really odd that it's also on iGear's site and their exclucive store.

Remember when they were trying to be cloak and dagger about their MP Prime KO before just admitting it was them who was making it? Strikes me as the same thing.

I don't think that iGear has been sued just yet... but I'm sure it's coming!

Nothing against them but blurrz has a good point. It's not like they were a major player in the 3rd party ranks..Now if this had been FP..Hmmmmmmmm especially since they just launched Warbot..

I think I'm going to lock this and provide the definitive answer to what's happened here.

That the site is down is not due to iGear being in trouble, it's the fact that TF08.net no longer seems to function. the igear site that was mentioned was part of the tf08 site, and thus isn't working.

iGear has long ago moved to http://shop.igeartoys.com/ and shows no sign of ceasing operations/being sued/whatever else.
