"Effar"?
Well, the first TF I EVER had was Bumblebee, IIRC.

Yes, EFFAR! I say that to make emphasis.

I am guessing G1 Starscream. This kid I knew had him, and I remember being totally envious. That is the first TF I really remember.

My very first TF was G1 Thundercracker, and I still remember buying him with my parents at a British Home Stores (BHS) store in London. Walked straight past the Dinobots: dark blue was my favorite color, so I wanted the blue 'plane.
Second: G1 Breakdown
Third: G1 Slag

Very first TF was G1 Skywarp. Got him as a present from my Dad on Christmas Eve. Still remember him being wrapped up in what essentially amounted to wrapping paper fashioned into a paper bag

Received G1 Optimus Prime the next day, and the rest is history...

First EFFAR... G1 Slag. He currently sits next to my laptop. Definitely has stood up very well, over the 24+ years. Aside from slightly loose horn, a floppy left foot in robot mode and a little chrome/sticker wear, he's in wonderful shape...
I remember the store my parents bought him from was a pharmacy type store, I'm thinking Genovese, but the particular location on Long Island is a bit fuzzy.

Bwahahahahaha... want me to make some of you sick? Alright, you asked for it... I distinctly remember around the age of 4 or so... my very first transforming toy was... Gobot Cy-Kill.
If we're talking real TFs, I guess it was Afterburner or Pretender Roadgrabber. Still have Roadgrabber too, but he's very worse for wear.

Slag was my first Transformer as well, sadly he didn't survive quite so well - I remember going to see my Dad in his shed with most of Slag in one hand and his right leg in the other.
He's long gone now, but his sucessor from ebay still carries the original's sword as a sort of tribute to him.

I had at least 2 gobots before I ever had an official TF... and I'll never forgive myself for that. My first ever official TF toy ever was G2 Skyscorcher Afterburner. At the time I really had no idea what it was so until recently I'd always thought my first was a G2 Optimus Prime, and as sad as it may sound I kinda prefer him over the G1 version. I wish I could restore him

I have memories of finding G1 Bumblebee and Megatron at a flea market, and getting Pretender Starscream and Powermaster Prime new for Christmas. But I can't remember which was actually the first. Very pleasant memories, though. I had PM Prime out and transformed before Mom could read the instructions. And I was only 4 or 5!

I'd have to say G1 Grimlock. He's the earliest one I remember having and still one of my favorites. Man, I miss that toy. I don't remember exactly where he went, but I blame my parents! Why do parents always have to throw aways their kid's toys??

For me it was Highbrow.
At some point, my parents bought me Darkwing and then Powermaster Optimus Prime.

Not sure whether you're asking what our first TF was or what the first TF we ever saw was but my answer covers both. I was utterly unaware of TF until my parents gave me G1 hound for xmas. I still have him, well played with but mint condition with box and accessories.

Soundwave.
I remember as the 3 of us left TRU in my mom's Datsun 280z, I was crammed into the back ( those cars had no back seats, only a little hatchback deck area ) like a piece of luggage while I opened and assembled my very first piece of addictive TF goodness.
Ah, memories....

my first TF was a G1 Quickmix my older brother tore up when he was little. He also lost the targetmasters too..... Anyhow I never learned that it was Quickmix until I researched it recently.

So how long did it take you to start begging your mother to get the car painted like Bluestreak, Prowl, or Smokescreen? Or to at least get an Autobot symbol painted on the hood?

G1 Prowl the day after the toys were released from K-Mart.
I remember walking in and the cars were stacked on the floor in a triangle shape.

I think it was either Hot Spot or Blades, I don't remember right, with a First Aid as third. Now they are both part of my Defensor (which was one of my first "missions" to complete after coming back to collecting)

I'm thinking it was either Scrapper or Trailbreaker.

Technically, it was a KO of Reflector. I got G1 Megatron the day after Christmas on 12/26/84. Man the memories.

G1 Gears and Huffer for me. Huffer I think got lost and burried in a sandbox along the way, but Gears is still sitting proud on one of my shelves.

Earliest full-on memory for me (I had gotten more before this but this was the first memory I can actually recall) was G1 Targetmaster Pointblank. It was my birthday, my dad was late for the party, but when he finally showed up he had Pointblank in his hand... I still have pictures of the event, but don't have the figure anymore... a few years later we moved into a rough neighbourhood and almost my entire collection fell prey to theft and destructive kids.
