Anyone apalled at the Star Wars transformers line?

I had thought about picking up one (Boba Fett/Slave I) but after looking at the reviews of them on youtube, their overall quality is very poor. The alt-mode is usually spot-on with most of them but the robot mode is just terrible.
What is Hasbro thinking? Their quality control is just awful with these. :BANG_HEAD:

Too me, i dont see the point why hasbro would do the Star wars cross overs, they look like crap and hasbro really needs to focus on whats important and thats regular Transformers and stop verring off course with these and the marvel cross overs as well. Hasbro reminds me of GM, gotta have their hands in everything little thing, and then when its too late, it comes crashing down. Just focus on 1 product line to make it better and they will buy it.

I gave the first wave a try and picked up Obi Wan and Grevious.. Obi Wan was far better as Grevious is a bitch to get fully transformed..

If they made them robot characters instead of Star Wars characters they might be better..

My opinion of course.

About the only figure worth anything in my opinion was Commander Cody. And even he had hip issues.

Some of the molds are real nice, the TIE Bomber/TIE Pilot comes to mind. Its alt mode, like most, was real nice and the mech mode was good too. I don't remember any loose joint but its been a while since I have held it. On the other hand the Imperial Shuttle/Emperor was a pretty bad one, good alt mode, the black colored one looked real nice, but bad mech mode. The head looked fugly and weapons were a bit forced, bottom of the top fin was a gun and the fin was a shield. Also on top of that the spot where the wings attached in mech mode to fore a skirt was way to loose. As a rule of thumb for me most of the mech modes that have a helmet turn out looking better then the once that meant to look like the characters head. Another bad point is how many repaints with small remodes, most heads, are in the line.

Best thing to do is find some video reviews on the ones you are interested in and then decide if its worth your cash.

"Appalled" is a pretty strong word for toys. I don't care for them, but I don't find them appalling.

I like the idea of a Staw Wars Transformer, an Autobot X-Wing? Awesome!

But they decided to make the character AS the vehicle, which is fail.

I've bought the Millenium Falcon, Luke Skywalker X-wing, Darth Vader TIE-fighter and Death Star, Slave 1, Cdr. Cody, and Obia Wan starfighter. Cody I am selling, just not interested in him, although he is pretty good. Obi-Wan was crap! Felt like a KO, cheap materials and joints. I hacked him up to use one of his arm joints on a kitbash. The rest of his parts are around somewhere, I think.

The other ones are pretty good, IMHO, but some of the ones I don't have look like they have pretty awful mech modes- tons of kibble. I won't be buying anymore, I have some major characters to face off against one another.

Basically, whoever decided to do these simply as Luke=X-wing should be fired. Doing a proper SW/TF crossover would be tantamount to be able to print your own money. But no!

Tell me an X-wing as Starscream, or Prime as a juggernaut wouldn't be ten kinds of win.

Thing is though, SW TF's are designed by the SW division, not the TF division. Same with the Marvel Crossovers.

Hasbro just bastardised the TF name and let their different divisions do their thing. Hell yeah it diminishes the TF brand but when you have a franchise like Star Wars you need to be pumping something out from there time and time again.

And like Mkall said, their only failure was they tried to make the robot modes look like the characters. Had it been a proper crossover it would have worked, but we all know Lucas would NEVER have allowed that.

Whenever you put two things I like, this time it's Star Wars and Transformers, and put them together in one mumbo jumbo and it's not going to work. Okay, maybe two hot chicks wrestling in jello, that I'll like.

I gave them many chances to impress me. Instead, it always seemed to fail. I'd rather have regular SW vehicles, and regular TFs, but not the X-overs.

I have way too many of the toys to give them another chance. I also tried Marvel, and they were also yucky...

Well, that would be kind of tough to screw up, even for Hasbro....
Nah, I like HAsbro and Hasbro products, but the SW crossovers just didn't do it for me. At one time I had a bunch of them, and now I've only held on the the Death Star Vader. They were just cheap feeling and honestly, I didn't find them to be any fun.
I'm not appalled, I'm just disappointed with myself for buying them, I guess.

I wasn't impressed with any of them from the get-go just based on looks, but when the Death Star came out I HAD to get it. No regrets. It's posable, it looks like the Death Star in alt. mode and looks suitibly proportionate and impressive in robot mode. It was so nice that I went out and got him a nemesis - Luke Skywalker X-wing.

Peice of garbage! Has to hold the VERY end of his light saber (so it looks funny), the robot mode looks wierd and spindly and he's kinda loose. Won't get another. Although the Millenium Falcon was very tempting (mainly because I find the idea of a hairy robot hillarious).

Really, none of the robot modes impress me, aside from Death Star Vader ... and I'm not into SW that much. I've gotten all from this line that I'd ever want.

The Marvel TFs are int he same boat .... except worse since they're focused on mainly Iron Man and Spider Man! Give me a Galactus (preferably a planetformer) and a Silver Surfer to be his minion. Extra points if they take a cue from Armada and make him his mini-con (packed with Terrax, Nova, and Golden Oldie since I'm in a whishful mood). The Punisher and Ghost Rider are actually nice looking, so who knows? Maybe they could pull off Galactus! Although the Marvel line is pathetically small.

I also own Vader as the Death Star. And yes, he is not too bad. But I have a feeling when I go to bad... Unicron and Primus beat the crap out of him.

Seriously. There is so much missed opportunity here. TF has had how many crossovers in its life? :BANG_HEAD:

I'm apalled by all the cross over lines. I don't see the point.

Well, I'd rather have these crossovers then the Disney ones. While SW/TF looks meh, the Disney ones look like pure poo-doo.

You make an incredibly valid point.

If they had done this, I would have actually bought them. It would be sort of a "what if" alternate story line with the TF characters ending up in the SW universe and scanning alt modes from those vehicles. As they are though, I have no interest whatsoever.

I only have one of the SW TF figures, which is the Clone Trooper Arc 170 fighter. It's a terrible Transformers figure. It's a failure in bot mode, transformation design, and construction of the product. However, the alt mode looks good.

Which is about all you can say for most of them.

I find them generally unappealing, but do have a couple.

On the good side:

I received the Vader TIE fighter as a gift--he's cool. I got Vader Death Star at TJMaxx for super cheap and he is quite awesome, actually. I got one of those two-for-one packs (on sale, too, so really 2 for less than 1) of Grievous' starfighter and Magna Guard and they're pretty good. I also received Marvel TF Venom as a gift and I actually really like him a lot. The quality feels much better on him than on the SWs ones (except Death Star Vader who feels like good quality).

On the dark side:

I got Fett but he not only was terrible, but fell apart in my hands so he was returned. I also had the Millenium Falcon, which was pretty cool, but it also crumbled and a leg broke right off (the gold-esque brown plastic of Chewie was very brittle) so that was returned. Nothing else has really appealed to me.

As an aside, my gf told me her nephew got Anakin/triangular starfighter with ring for his b-day and he LOVED it. These things also seem to sell well, especially given the price point, so there must be a market for them. On the other hand, the Marvel ones seem to peg warm forever.

I have one word. The word is - ROBOTECH.

If Hasbro had copied Robotech, and included mini pilots with the idea in mind that the bot mode had to only vaguely resemble a Transformer robot mode, then I think we'd have been okay. From what I can see, the robot modes aren't too horrendous, except for the heads - if they'd have made the bot modes more like a Starwars robot with a dash of mecha-style, I think it would've worked.

I'm appalled, but only in the sense that they've implemented a nice idea so badly.

I'm always surprised and perhaps apalled at how dreadful the robot modes look. I can't imagine the designer sitting back and saying "yep, that's pretty darned sweet".
