They are for attaching his coronation shoulderpads, there are also points on his head where the crown is supposed to clip on. These accessories were never released. The 3rd party versions may make use of the hard points, I am not sure.

The 3rd party coronation set does make use of the shoulder holes and the hole on his head. It's one of the better 3rd party products.

Dammit! When I went to check this out I noticed my wing joint is cracking. The effer is going to break if I transform it anymore! So that's out of the question now, but the question is do I just leave it alone or should I heat up some metal and try to melt it a bit at the crack to fuse it together more?

I bought this stuff called the Last Glue.
http://www.thelastglue.com/It's **** fantastic! It even fixed my blue Gladiator Voltron. And he suffers from GPS!

Good idea...thanks! Is there much difference between this and super glue, other than it doesn't dry out? I ask because I have super glue already and that would probably do the trick just to help reinforce it, but if this stuff is far superior I may have to invest in a bottle.

Lemme put it this way: Super Glue is crap. It's brittle. And it'll just snap that part once you try to transform it.
I bought the Last Glue to fix the neck of a G1 Swoop. It transforms just fine. I've also fixed the shattered shoulder of my blue Gladiator Voltron and it also works just fine (although a litle stiff since I almost glued it in it's socket). My sister uses it to glue jewels into her jewelry if they come out of place. Done properly they don't come out again.
Let it cure for a good day and you'll be set. Just be careful. If this gets in the joints of your figure, it'll be all over, he'll be a statue. isolate that broken part as much as possible and try to fill that crack witht he glue as best as you can. Use as little as possible for the best result.

Did Takara actually plan these accessories but cancel them later? I never knew if this was official.

I think it sounds familiar that there was a plan for the coronation set to be officially released, but then I seem to recall the 3rd party one coming out first. All of that could be wrong like hell.
The 3rd party coroation set doesnt clip to anything. The shoulder pads just go over Starscreams' shoulders and the cape attaches to the back of the pads. The crown just goes on his head. He does look super awesome with it on though.
