Classics Coronation Starscram set

So I got mine tonight. And, wouldn't you know it? Something broke.

It was the peg from one of the new wing panels. I applied too much force trying to get it into the wing hole and .... bent it. I widened the hole and snapped it in place after .... but it just came off a short time later as I was putting the other wing bit in. I just gotta say ...

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!

Damn. That's just frustrating. What's worse is that the other one was warped, but at least some work with an exacto knife fixed that mostly.

To compound the annoyance, since I widned the hole the original pegs don't peg in anymore! Even though the new ones are (or were in this case) really tight. So I can't just revert the thing to it's original state and call it even.

So, as not to waste a Starscream and since I'm a stubborn fool I bought another just today. And wouldn't you know it? The price has increased. Now it's $10 more than it used to be. I feel like an idiot. :BANG_HEAD:

Right now the set is on Acid Storm. It looks fine with his current wing bits ... I really wish I hadn't even attempted to alter them. Oh, well. I just had to vent about it.

I just got this set in the mail today. Hope I don't encounter the same problems you did, guess I'll know soon enough.

Just did the install and did't have any major problems. I used sandpaper to put a bevel on the hinge pegs and to reduce their overall size. They went in fairly easily after that. They don't really add much to the figure and you can use the cape just fine without them. It also makes him back heavy when the wings are folded straight back. Not a bad little set, but the new wing hinges really aren't worth the trouble. Since I only sanded down the new parts and left the figure alone I can always go back to the factory set up. Overall I'm happy with the results.

Welp, I got set #2 and the peice fit into the resized hole JUST FINE! I'm now feeling awsome about this set. I'm one of those wacky people who downright LOVED it when Galvatron blew Starscrem to dust, so I'll buy any coronation set they come out with.

Although, now I have two unused Leader-1 heads. If I ever come across a knockoff Classics Starscream, I suppose he can be Leader-1. I wouldn't feel too bad screwing up a KO.

Haha, if loving that scene is wacky, I'm totally nuts! I loved it!

"Megatron, is that you?"
"Here's a hint!"

OBLITERATION.

It's just so unexpectedly insane and to the point. Love it. So I of course bought the MP Coronation kit as soon as it went on sale, but I think my Classics version is okay without it.

Do you absolutely have to install the new hinges to put on the cape and the crown? Because that's really all that matters to me.

No, they have nothing to do with the crown and the cape can still be used with the standard wing hinges. They really aren't that hard to install, just use some sandpaper to bevel the edge of the peg and to decrease is diameter and they go in pretty easily.

I'll try to upload some pics this weekend.

Here's a couple pics. I added Acid Storm to try and show how the wings look modded VS unmodded, but it really doesn't come through in the pictures. It looks MUCH better modded. Normally the wings are really flat and two-dimensional ... the modded wings give the figure a more 3D feel. Although it does make the figure back-heavy this is also an easy fix since the tailfins on the shins can be angled downwards to provide more support.

But don't mod the figure like I did - by expanding the wing's hole. Sand the peg down like El Duque. That way there's turning back from the upgrade. Oddly those wings parts are the only peices that are warped at all. The crown and shoulder pads fit nicely on Screamer. The wings bits have to be sanded down or cut to fit (and not just the peg).

The thought of having a coronations set for classics screamer is pretty neat, but the addition of the new wing hinges pisses me off a bit. It actually puts him a step above other seeker molds, and while that seems rather appropriate to a degree, I personally would want all my seekers to be on par with each other.

So I finally ordered the set after watching the TFSource video review. What really put it over the top for me? The Leader-1 head! I'd have ordered it sooner but nobody ever mentioned it!

Bracing for epic...

You don't actually have to use those. The set works just fine without them. In fact, without the gigantic blasters hindering things, you can get some nice poses out of Classics Starscream without banging into those wings too much.

Of course then you have thin null rays and your Starscream looks a little different anyhow.

@zod - post some pics of Leader-1 once you get him, please! I'm interested to know how that mod would look like. It's one I don't really wanna attempt myself.

Admittedly I suppose it isn't necessary, but here's the problem... those wing hinges are actually the only draw for me. If I could I'd buy a bunch of these to improve all my seekers, but as it is I just don't find the value and material of the whole set enough to buy multiples of when all I want are the hinges.

Like I said, coronation set is neat but it's not my thing. Get me a set with just the mold improvements alone then we'll talk.
