Need Advice: Keep or Return?

So here's the back story:
Kibble wrote:I just got a loose Alternators Camshaft to complete the line, but the plastic on him looks all jacked up. There are "spots" in the plastic all over it...almost looks marbled or something. Don't know if it qualifies as misrepresented, the auction said the usual: adult collection, smoke free home, use for display only...which may all be true. Didn't mention anything about the plastic flaws, though, and the one pic didn't suggest there were any issues. Just got it yesterday so I'm still debating what to do. I assume this condition isn't common with Camshaft figs, is it? I don't know, I got a relatively decent price on it, but I probably woulda passed had there been anything documenting the imperfections throughout the plastic.

Here's the listing pic:

Here's what I got:

So help me decide what to do... Should I look to return this thing? Should I hang on to it, but keep an eye out to replace it down the road if I happen upon a good deal? Granted, these shots are intended to make it look bad...it can look okay if it's sitting on the shelf. You gotta see it at the right (or should I say wrong) angle with the light hitting it to really notice, but as you can see, it's obviously there...and there are actually more subtle spots on it that didn't really show up in the pics. If it helps, I paid $32 + $5 for shipping.

Thanks for any advice on the matter...

I wouldnt return it. It depends on how you value your TFs. I really dont give a crap weather its scratched up or perfect. In fact, I perfer my TFs to have scratches on them (IDK why) I used to give my movie TFs battle damage by breaking little pieces. I dont do that anymore though, I was just stupid back then. So it depends on how you like your stuff.

I don't have him myself to make any informed decision about how widespread the issue is. But if it was my purchase, I'd hang onto it until I found another.

Then just rebay the lesser of the two.

Judging from the listing pic and the ones you took, it's not a misrepresentation per se. The whole marble look does turn up every once in a while in silver colored plastic, my Movie Autobot Jazz has the same thing, to a lesser extent. As long as the plastic is smooth on top, the lighting can hide it pretty well.

I'll try and remember to look at mine when I get home and do a quick comparison.

Thanks. I'd appreciate any input from people that have him to get a gauge on just how much worse off mine is compared to your typical Camshaft. Although at this point it doesn't sound like anyone's really of the opinion that I got shafted...

Can you FEEL those spots, like they're raised or depressed, or only SEE them?

The plastic is smooth to the touch...just visual.

Then I would say you have no grounds to return it. The seller is obligated to reveal anything that's broken or damaged, but if the paint application has inconsistencies from the factory, there's no expectation that the seller should mention that.

Well, I actually do have grounds to return it as the auction states the seller will offer a refund (minus shipping) if the item is returned within 7 days of receiving in the same condition it was sent. I disagree that there are no expectations that it should be mentioned as I find consciously withholding information to be the same as giving misinformation, but I'm not here to bag on the seller. I'm trying to decide what I should do with an item I'm not all that happy with, but at the same time, one that's not easy to come by at a decent price.

Well, personally I'd keep it, because inconsistencies in the coloring of metallic plastic are pretty common, and it is a pretty rare figure. The chip on the hood is a little more disheartening... But if it really bugs you that much and you can still return it, then do it. I just know if it was me, I'd probably end up regretting the return because it would be really hard to find one for the same price.

Although, I sold off my incomplete RiD Railracer(missing a weapon) in favor of spending more on an MIB JRX, because the incompleteness bothered me so much. If stuff tends to bug you like that, then maybe send it back.

It definitely will bother me, but I'm leaning toward just holding on to it and keeping an eye out for another. Or if I could find a junker to swap out the doors...with nice doors it wouldn't be so bad.

Sorry to hear. No rush, I think I'll keep it either way, but I would be curious to hear what I should expect with this fig and the plastic.

Good call in keeping it.

It seems that this figure has swirling in all forms and kinds. Your particular swirls just seem a big uglier than what I've found.

But it does seem to be an aspect of the plastic.

Dang, I'm sorry to hear that too. Hopefully your family gets through it okay.

Good to know, thanks. Makes it a bit more of a challenge to upgrade...
