Not sure whether this is an unfinished prototype or a custom. Either way it looks like it fits the G1 Prime pretty well.

I'd say it's a custom job. Not new if I may add, nor even needed. The later versions of the G1 Prime mold have two notches for the matrix that comes with the New Year's release and the Galvatron reissues.

Yep, looks custom. I do like the base though, so that it can be secured. The fact that it opens is pretty darn cool too.

:-B Though it looks nice and all, I wonder if it locks in a stable position on all Convoy versions. Why so? well the official Takara Matrix only locks properly with the Convoy's made 2000 up. In the pre 2000 versions, it hangs loose 'cause the notch in between the pseudo seats in the chest cavity is kind of thin.

Looks nice.

For a cheaper alternative, Cybertron Prime's Matrix fits perfectly in G1 Prime:

Tested in Encore Convoy, and here on 25th Anniversary Prime.

Snug fit, and stays in place in both modes.

I say it's a custom because I can't believe Hasbro would have made something so accurate and detailed at that size in that era.

More info has been released on this, apparently it is an upcoming product by BTS. The jetpack looks similar to the one that comes with THS Prime, and fits on Prime's trailer too. Looks like the jetpack doubles as storage for the accessories as well.

ohh, nice. My poor Prime has no hands anymore, and his rifle is gone, so I might get this set for him.

He's also missing his trailer door, Roller, half his front bumper, and a lot of chrome, but this set wont help those problems. Poor guy

What a strange and unnecessary set. The only thing I'm interested in is the Matrix, but I'm not going to bother paying for the whole set just for that.

I kind of think most of the upgrades to G1 figures are a little unnecessary. I guess maybe CrazyDevy can get away with it, but otherwise, they look even clunkier when they've got extra updated bits. Prime's arms look ridiculous here when he's holding the matrix in his new articulated hands.

Loving the jetpack and the fact that it stores unused accessories. Prime does look rediculous holding up that matrix with his hollow forearms. I just might have to get this set. The hands look a little redic also.

If you're gonna be pessimistic because you only want the matrix, then stick to Cybertron Prime's Matrix, like what Overcracker suggested.

It's a more financially viable move to release upgrades as part of a set instead of a part by part basis like what Crazy Devy does since it keeps costs down, both for the producer and the consumer.

Optional Upgrades are just that........optional or to put it in another way, unnecessary. Optimus doesn't need it necessarily but if you want to accurately relive the original pilot episode, then the product is a a good fan wank.

The articulated fist looks kind of clumsy but given the limitation of the original design, we'll just have to take it as it is.

I hope the final product would emulate the semi transparent "energon" effect of his axe without melting like the "original" MP-01 (don't know much about TFC-0 though)a somewhat metallic weathered effect on the "pack" and a shiny black ion blaster.

If they chrome the matrix, make it a neat gold finish plus a rainbow effect spectrum center.

A decent lead-level czech-crystal would be much, much cooler. Or even a cheap, non-leaded with a blue\rainbow coating might work

I'm going to guess it'll be sky-blue paint, though. With grey and orange casing.

Big question - will the colours fit the "Purple" G1, "blue" G1, G2 or 25th Reissue Prime?

I think the casing of this product will hold because it's got a box like compartment unlike the official "Matrix' which depended on the middle plastic structure of the simulated "seats" in Convoy's chest. The original G1 is somewhat thinner that's why the official Matrix wobbled a lot.

Its even got a decent price for the set. Just pre-ordered this. The axes look cool. Not sure the hands needed to be translucent too though.

But it looks very nice.
