My wife calls me and asked me... What Transformer do you want? I went with Drift  I rarely pick Autobots, they just don't have "the scare the pants off you" look.

can anyone translate the writing on his car doors and and sword?

What kind of car? I think the official term is 'sexy'.

I'm not sure, but there's a review here that I think mentions what they are.

TFWiki already did. The car doors have the kanji 侍, "samurai". The large sword says 天下無双 (tenka musō), "peerless under providence". These are directly lifted from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, the sequel to Engine Sentai Go-onger which was adapted into Power Rangers RPM.

Seriously, they must have a Japanophile on the Hasbro design team, since Drift was created in the US all the way.

If Takara do a version of the figure I wonder if they'll keep the weeaboo kanji or blank it out.

They'll probably smooth out the sword and put "ドリフト" (do-ri-fu-to) instead of "侍" (Samurai), to avoid conflict with Shinkenger.

If you want the model he's based on a Mitsubishi FTO.

Too me, Drift looks like a Honda S2000

Thanks for the help,

the top sword clip on his back extends out so that the sword can be held so it does not hit the spoilers on his legs.

I know that's what the wiki says...and it may even be based off of valid information. However, am I the only one that sees absolutely no resemblance between the FTO and Drift?

Didn't Guido Guidi design him? Either that or it was based on an already pre existing/in the works design by Hasbro/Takara.

Plus one more thing, Drift kind of reminds me of Skyfire/Jetfire, only on wheels (he's like the third destron defector in the G1( including Dinobot from Beastwars universe that would be 4th and (if you count Japan's Sixshot)) he's got white and red apps, aerodynamic and one sexy car. :APPLAUSE:

I don't believe the FTO is actually the model the figure is based on. Even if there is literature out there that says so, the damned thing is actually shaped like a Toyota Supra. The Alt mode of this figure does not look like the FTO, which by the way is also a front wheel drive car-the FTO would not be much of a "drift" car. That stuff doesn't work with a front drive car.

I'm not saying that Jelze is actually wrong, but even if there is information in the world that says the figure is based on the FTO......then the information itself is wrong. All you need to do is look at a few pictures of Toyota Supras to see this is true.

It's based on nothing. I see a bunch of cars in it. It should have been a 240SX though.

Now that you mention it, it does look far more like a supra than it does the FTO. Although if that is the primary vehicle it is modeled after, that was a poor choice. Supra's have never been known to be amazing drifters...

First thing I thought, why would they base a car on something not great at drifting.

Maybe it's a Mitsubishi Eclipse with a BMW Z3 Headlight conversion, a molded Bomex Bodykit, a 2JZ swap, and NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
