MP Megatron: Cosmic Rust or Cosmic Tarnish

Yea, so as you may have guessed from the topic title, my Megatron has a severe case of "cosmic rust". I've heard stories about this problem in the past, which is why I waited so long to get one. I bit the bullet last week and bought a MISB one, hoping that the rust/tarnish problem wouldn't be there. Sadly, when I opened it yesterday, it was so bad on his feet that they literally look tan instead of silver. Many of his other metal pieces also have this problem.
I remember Counterpunch asked his wife about it (who I believe is a chemical engineer) and she said it was a tarnishing problem. If that's the case, how exactly do I get rid of it? If it was just a little bit of discoloration, I wouldn't mind so much, but it's literally a different color and it's even changed the texture of the metal. I like the figure a lot, but if this problem is going to affect the figure's longevity, I'll really be heartbroken. I'll include some pictures of the problem.

The solution is a simple polishing rag.
Don't use chemicals.
The thing is, that polishing over time will actually wear the metal down and rub out detail. The tarnish, while ugly, isn't a real problem so much as a coating blocking out further degredation.
I actually just leave mine as-is.

Thanks for the quick response. So do you mean a polishing cloth like the kind you get to clean your glasses, or is it something different? Also, are you saying that if I use the polishing cloth too much, it'll make things worse???

I don't know the reasons against using chemicals, CP would have to go more into that, but I've used Tarn-X on mine and it came right off with minimal effort. Anything else I've tried has been a chore and has resulted in only moderate success..only somewhat improving the condition, but not removing the tarnish entirely, even if only temporary.
Again, CP or someone would have to speak to the potential long term damage something like Tarn-X may be doing, but to make his feet look nice and shiny again, it works beautifully.

Tam-X? Where's that available?Heck mine too has the same blemish. Just place it out of the box for a day then voila instant rust.

Kibble, we don't have a Walmart where I come from. If you have the time, could you like post the product's main ingredient from the can/canister(?) Maybe I can find a similar local product. Also tried google and all I got was something for a pantyhose(Tam-X that is). I'd greatly appreciate it.

No, it's TARN-X
http://www.jelmar.com/TarnXbasic.htmYou should also be able to find it at your local hardware store, department store, or if you have Walgreens or something comparable. And there are other brands of tarnish remover available, too, I'm sure.
I'm not at home to look at the bottle right now, but I can look later if you need more to go on.

I haven't heard of Chlorostop...haven't had much need for tarnish remover in the past, but it's quite possible it's the same stuff, different name.
