Hello, a friend of mine has just won this of ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0612030736 It looks like starsaber but in differant color, but it has some japenese writing, takara, and 1989 stamp in the cockpit. does anybody no if there were any plans for him to be released in to the UK market or the gen 2 line.

The mold is that of Star Sabre, minus the base-mode part. Complete with Brainmaster. Sadly, I know nothing of any rerelease of him, but those are spiffing colours.

It's fake to me...and I'll tell you why:
The picture of the Takara stamp is shown too close up. Give us a wider view shot of the Takara stamp showing the turquoise color, and I'll say you might be on to something, but other than that it's a good quality KO trying to be resold as a test shot or prototype because your "friend" probably over paid for a KO.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge. The Auction itself only has the one image that I can see, thus I like to assume that the pics were taken by the receiver, and not the auctioner.
As much as I want to say KO, I cannot with 100% certainty. There were some Victory figs that saw Europe repaints, maybe this would've been one of them? I don't really know.

According to TFU.Info, Star Saber was never recolored...

Only 4 of the Breast Force (*giggle*) and the Brainmasters saw release there. The Breast Force (*snort*) was repainted as the Rescue Force, sans original accessories, while the Brainmasters overall got lighter colors when released as Motorvators, with smaller figures and swords.

The sticker on the vertical tail fins depicting the US flag just screams KO to me.

It's the colours for me that give some prudence to the theory its a testshot. They fit very nicely with the likes of Thunderclash, Stalker and Overlord. The stickers mean nothing if its a testshot or mockup - other figures from G1 up to G2 have been testshot with different stickers from production run.
Also the lack of god-mode body doesn't mean anything either. Hasbro may have chosen to release the minijet as a stand alone figure with a similar price range to Rotorstorm.
The only proof would be seeing another one of these showing it to be a KO, or Hasbro announcing it isn't.
