Why a War For Cybertron Extended Toyline Would Rock

Much like the rest of you, I've pretty much fallen in love with War For Cybertron for the past few weeks. When playing the game, I just crave toys for all the characters, and just think of the possibilities! There's so much Army Building, a handful of generic Autobot, Decepticon and Starscream's Army troops would be sick, as well as a Brute figure for each Army. Repaints would be welcome because it's all about army building.
Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper and Soundwave are not enough. Starscream's easy, and repaint of Thundercracker and Skywarp would be guaranteed. Ratchet and Ironhide could share the same mold. Figures for the rest of the main cast, Air Raid, Jetfire, Brawl, Warpath, Shockwave etc would be brilliant.
There just needs to be more figures for the characters from this Game. From the TV Screen to the shelves, having only a small portion of figures for WFC in Generations will make it fail like WW in Transformers Titanium. Omega Supreme, Trypticon.. I know that getting more figures past the 5 that we know of is unlikely, but damn, this game is Legend.

Yeah, I agree 100% with everything you said. The more I play the game, the more I love it. Thus, the more I want the toys from the game! I'd love to see a Brawl figure.
Do you think the success (sales) of the game will dictate how many toys they release?
I think the likelihood of more figures will go down the longer the game is out (interest will fade, etc.).

I'm not sure if anything the game does now will affect how many WFC figures will get pushed out. It's kind of clear that Hasbro was just using WFC to release the popular characters, OP, BB, Megs and Soundwave, so Generations could set its foundation, and with what was said at BotCon, looks like Generations is moving toward the Classics area and pushing WFC far away.

I would guess that a few more WFC figures will make it into Generations, even if it's just as a "Cybertronian Mode" of some character.

As long as Soundwave can transform into his third mode, I'll be happy.
Wouldn't mind Zeta Prime and Breakdown, though

The problem is, the War for Cybertron experience isn't as easy to acquire as the movies or the TV shows. Not all transformer collectors are into video games, so releasing a whole line that caters to the few that have already played the game is not wise, since those who are unfamiliar with it's world will not get it.

Got to be honest, I couldn't care if Hasbro did not make anymore WFC figures. So far only half of them look good and to me it only feels like rehashes of the same old guys.
Heck, I'm probably not even going to buy the game till next year.

You like, need to buy the game. Now. Nujevad wrote:The problem is, the War for Cybertron experience isn't as easy to acquire as the movies or the TV shows. There is no problem with that. Like anything, Hasbro will be aiming to a greater fanbase, not one that's for the collectors. The gaming community would be all over this. Look at Halo/Halo2/Halo3 Figures. They sell like hotcakes.

The amount of figures which the Halo toyline produces isn't even close to the numbers which the Transformers reach in even one of their major sub-lines. The reason why the Halo toys are selling out is because not many of them are made in the first place.
While it would be nice if some of other the War for Cybertron characters were to come out, a whole sub-line devoted to an otherwise niche market would be hard to justify. I call it niche because while there is a significant number of people who play video games, not all of them would buy this game or have a system capable of playing it.
Like I said, it's not like with movies or TV shows, any average person and their kid can experience them with little to no effort, unlike video game, which would've served as the major advertising medium for the toyline.
Maybe a War for Cybertron sub-line would be feasible if some time has passed and numerous tie-in materials has been released to the general audience (maybe even a mini-series on the Hub), giving the continuity a chance to grow more prominent in the public eye, but I feel that it's just too early right now.

I'd have to argue that Halo releases are not small. There are around 10 figures released in each wave that comes every 2-3 months. There's also weapon packs, two-packs, and vehicle packs.
War For Cybertron's fanbase is not niche, we aren't stuck in the stone age so you can't use the argument of 'not everyone will have the system'. Wii, 360, PS3, PC - if someone doesn't have one of those it's ridiculous.

Didn't I read somewhere in all the Botcon coverage that during one of the panels it was stated if the initial WFC figures sold well they would consider doing more?

The three figures I hope we get from War For Cybertron are Frenzy, Rumble, and Laser beak, with a repaint of laser beak as buzz saw. I wouldn't mind a supreme class omega supreme and trypticon, but the problem with this is that they used the oldest trick in the game design book we never saw them transform from alt-mode to robot mode so how would they make toys of them.

What matters is, WFC the game must be a runaway hit in the US of A...........like Halo for it to become a feasible main toy line a trickle down effect is sure to follow. It does not necessarily mean that having a TV show will guarantee a successful toyline............(ehem TFA)as the opposite of having a computer system will also guarantee success.
i don't think it is a "niche" product per se, a one time niche product today may be tomorrows hottest mainstream sensation (anime,RPGs,Pokemon etc........heck even Halo, before Halo and RPG /anime themed games were like "geek/nerd" territories...now they are pretty much mainstream.

True, but compared to the numbers that the Transformers releases, they're small. Transformers appear not only in toystores, but general retailers in numerous countries as well.

Even if you have the system to play them, it doesn't automatically mean that you'll get the game. Just because you like the brand doesn't mean that you'll automatically pick every piece of merchandise or media bearing the name.

If you read my post all the way, you'd see that I said that a War for Cybertron toyline is not feasible
RIGHT NOW. I also said that given time and the right amount of tie-in material, it might happen.

I agree with the OP. On everything. I'm almost done with the single player campaign and I want a toy for every experience. The characters look great, the game is awesome and I would throw money at Hasbro for toys. I understand the reality of seeing said toys is bleak, it doesn't curb my enthusiasm for the product.

@davejun....no need to SHOUTyour opinion. As stated by Blurzz, an "extended run" by his statement means...............after the main run of the toyline so you are contradicting yourself.
Replying quote per quote reminds me of another topic and to quote some snarky know it all "I hate these types of replies wherein each point is quoted and rebutted point by point. after it is started by someone, it doesn't end"

dont know about trypticon yet but omega does show his alt mode a lot in the 2nd to last chapter of the decepticon campain, only transforms once but has a cool alt mode

Last time I checked, being a snarky know it all is not against the rules. I'm not flaming anyone nor am I creating a hostile environment. I'm just debating here and debates are also not against the rules, even if it's offensive to closed minded people.
As for contradicting myself, I said that an extended toyline would be feasible after some time and tie-in material has been released, making the continuity more prominent in the public's eye. Even if the current run of WFC toys have been released, there would be no use in releasing a devoted toyline it's fanbase is just video game players. More likely that some more figures would be released under the Generations than Hasbro creating a whole new subline for a continuity which isn't aimed for the average consumer.
I would like add that the only realistic scenario which Hasbro would release a WFC toyline right now is if they did it in limited runs, like what they did with the titaniums.

Agrees. It would rock and rock hard!! I know I would definitely love to see a Trypticon figure (thought the chances of that are slime to none), and I can see them doing repaints/retools/remoulds to make a Ultra Magnus and MotorMaster out of the Prime mold which I would buy no doubt. Though actually I would like to see them pull a off a Slipstream, more so then the regular Seekers, simply because she is a new character with a different design. Pipe dream, yeah maybe, but I don't care I needz me my kick arse femme fatals!!!!

I totally agree. It would give everyone a chance to visit or revisit the past before earth. I mean we don't have very many figures of shockwave, one from WFC would be so AWESOME! I read somewhere, though I don't remember where..that they were gonna wait and see how these figures sell then once they had that figured out it would determine if they were going to make anymore.

If only they made toys of characters that haven't been done so many times, much less just had their ROTF counterparts sit on shelves for so long.
Soundwave's the only one I find interesting, and really only for a
that third mode. I'd like a Shockwave, but I bet we'd have to wait for Starscream to get a mold first (and then the Seeker repaints may end up cutting in line).
