Just got Piranacon Reissue: the verdict.

Hmm. So I just got my hands on the Piranacon reissue, and there's a few negatives.

On the positive side, the set is fairly definitive. All six Seacons are present, and all their various accessories are there. The packaging is nice, I love the little collector card things and hey, it's the Seacons. Also the chromed sword looks beautiful.

The negatives are that this figure has the same molding problems as the Club version. Upon removing the figure from the box Overbite fell from Piranacon's hand into my lap and Overbite's own hand and gun fell off too. Much like the Club set his gun falls of very easily in shark mode. Tentakil's squid head/robot legs also suffer with some rather nasty sprue plastic kicking around and some mutated plastic in the hinge. Also the pre-applied stickers are a little shoddy.

This, combined with some of the G1-inaccurate colourings (especially Snap-trap's robot head) should serve as a note of caution to anyone planning to purchase this set.

Does anyone know of any other significant mold problems with the Club set so I can compare on this set?

My guess is that the changes on Overbite were done to integrate him better in the overall Seacon color scheme, as the deep purple was unique to him. Snap Trap's head is just unpainted for unknown reasons.

I'm comparing my vintage Tentakil with the photo of the reissue, and it has the same "warped" plastic, so maybe it's a design fault? And which one of Overbite's hands fall off? Beast mode arms or robot mode fists? I ask because Overbite's robot fists have screws in them, while the beast mode arms just plug in.

WTF!!?!? One of Seawing's guns is outright missing! Nice QC, Hasbro!!

Overbite's shark arm falls off. It does just plug in, but the plug is really loose.

What, seriously?! Which one is missing, left or right?

Man, Overbite really got bad luck when it came to his mold. You think it has something to do with him replacing Nautilator one too many times? :P

It's my fault though, I jinxed it. As I was looking through a bag full of black weapon stands and black parts for a small black gun and was unable to find it after a few seconds I was thinking "Heh, wouldn't it be funny if it wasn't in here" Turns out it's not all that funny.

Haha, what? It turns out that the rod that should hold Nautilator's connection peg for arm mode and targetmaster mode is also missing.

It's held in by nothing. This set really is an abysmal disappointment.

It just keep getting better and better. Thankfully it's only Nautilator, the bumbling member of the group. :P

Maybe you can pick up an extra Nautilator or Lobclaw somewhere?

I wonder how long I have to leave it before I can tell Hasbro I got the set from them and lobby them for replacement parts...

Don't wait. RobotKingdom already has them in stock (I think). If someone asks, just say it was overnighted from their store :CON:

Thanks for the tip. I sent a very annoyed email to Hasbro asking what they intend to do about it.

Sorry to hear about all your bad luck with these guys. I may cancel my pre-order. I already have the TFCC set and don't really have any issues with it. I was mainly after this release for the chrome, but I can live without it.

Hope you have more luck than I did with their European arm recently...

Sorry to hear about your bad luck tho', I'm expecting my preorder in about two weeks and hope this is an isolated incident.

Man, I'm real sorry to hear about all your problems with the set. Hopefully you're able to get it sorted. I'm hoping the whole run doesn't end up with all these problems too. I ordered these guys for myself.

If this is what we are getting from BBTS, then I'll pass the set.

At least if you order it through BBTS and have problems they will either correct them or allow you to return them.

Yeah, hope you have better luck than anytime I ask them about replacement parts.

All I ever get is: "Here's a shipping label, send it to us and we'll either replace it or send you a similarly valued product."

They can't be bothered with refunds, can they?

Molding problems I am not surprised but missing accessories? And the pre applied decals look like a shoddy knock off or is it just the lighting?

*sighs* Forget the red letter day, this is definitely turning into a week.

First TRNS turns out to be shoddy.
Now this?

Geez. I don't know what to do at this point.

I can fix up TRNS, though I shouldn't have to.
I might get lucky and get a good Seacons set.

But that's a lot of ifs for a lot of money.

I hear ya. This has been somewhat disappointing. However, I think the TRNS-01 is far more disappointing. That actually costs more than this Piranacon Reissue and requires far more work to fix IMO.

Honestly, I'm not surprised by the Overbite problem. The Nautilator one is far more disturbing.

Cancelled my order. I wasn't very intent on ordering these in the first place as I have the originals but I preordered them just in case. After reading about these issues and considering I don't really need two Pianacons, I decided not to get it.
