Piranacon Re-issue First Impressions

Well my Piranacon Re-Issue came today from BBTS and I have to say, It is definitely shiny in the box (sadly I wasn't taking pictures with the un-boxing as I'm sure someone else will and post it on youtube). After liberating it from it's string ties (love those so much more than the old plastic ties), a few things jumped out at me right away. Some of the decals that were applied weren't quite on all the way much to my immediate dismay. I also noticed that the linkage between Snaptrap, skalor, and tentakil were a bit on the loose side for my liking; Prinacon leans forward a bit.

After doing a careful inspection, looking for more decal application issues, of which it felt each figure had at least one; it was time to get these bad boys transformed.

Quite a few transformation joints, such as overbites head; and the leg slide on tentakill were a bit tight, almost bordering in the realm of "am I going to break this!?". Sadly, I would recommend leaving Overbite in Gun or robot mode, as the decals on his legs crinkle (to my shock) trying to slide the fight into place for alt mode! Another note of warning is I would not recommend clipping overbite, or skalor into the gun stands, as it may lead to paint wear on their faces (>_<).

Overall; I'm glad I got them, somewhat wish I'd left them in the package, but that isn't what I buy transformers for. Maybe my memory of the G1/G2 combiners isn't quite that of what i remember (loose/wobbly connection pegs). I will say that it makes me hesitant to put down any money on a predaking no matter how much I love him (never had one). It makes me want to go dig out my G2 Brutacus and compare but it is what it is.

Pros:

* Affordable re-issue of a sought after combiner (allows fans like myself to get him who never had him)

* He's complete

* I dig the colors

Cons:

* He's a bit shakey

* Paint/decal apps are a bit hit and miss **Be Careful with Him**

I'm curious what your folks take on him is, also I'm new and this is my first post. I'm a long time watcher, figured I'd give me take on it.

It wasn't that bad. There were a lot of mold degradation issues...........especially in Nautilator (he's got no love from Hasbro I guess), even Diem's post attests to that (from the missing pin and and just look at his crotch). Plastic not as glossy and the change of purple to violet (or the other way around) on Overbite.

Decals? Well I wish some sigils were stamped graph like Encore but that Hasbro could have left the applications to us but the quality really ain't that bad (misplaced placement on the chest armor of Snaptrap)

And maybe, skipping the paint apps on Snaptraps' head was another boo boo in the cost cutting department but hey..........we finally have a complete Piranacon.

True that, to be honest the green (teal?) head doesn't bother me so much, but some of the QC issues still miff me for a premium price =/

I'm surprised at how many color differences there are with this reissue. I'll be doing some comparison galleries and finishing up the TFCC seacons in the next week or two.

Can't decide if I want to leave my pre-order in place or not. I already have the TFCC set from a couple of years ago, but I do like to colors and chrome on this set. Plus it's pretty reasonably priced. Decisions, decisions.

There are times when the photos' colors are kind of different from the actual item. Maybe the lighting or quality of the camera itself. This is also apparent in Japanese figure magazines (either that or the pics are from prototype types and not the actual release items)so I am looking forward to Seibertron's comparative sessions with the vintage and re-issue. How purple/violet is the re-issue in Overbite is anyway. In my TF Generations book,the purple was very obvious.

I believe my Seacons should be in very soon this month, and i hope i dont have issues with him! Piranacon, Predaking and Abominus are my top 3 favorite Decepticon combiners and its a shame that QC doesnt care about it or the people spending money on this item.
