Cassette Man/Soundwave Question!

So, a few days ago on ebay, I scored this guy for roughly $30.

Upon further research, I learned that there were two 'cassete man' Soundwaves made in the early 80's; one was a pre-Transformers one and another was a knockoff.

I am no expert, so I thought I'd ask you fine folk if there's any way to tell which of the two it is.

..Though, to be fair, this is just for curiosity sake; I just bought it because it makes me happy.

I could be wrong, but I believe other than the lack of Takara Copyright info on him, the knockoff was also missing the silver paint on the mouth plate. It was just flat blue.

not sure how to tell from the figure itself, only from the box.

I do know that even the KO goes for a pretty penny, $150 if you have the box and all accessories including the condor and jaguar cassettes.

I am not sure myself. But if you by these guys, then yours could be a KO version.

The knee sticker on yours said, "Cassette".
The assume legit one, said "Microman"

Don't know much about this myself but from what I have read the KO was made in taiwan by shiantai and should be stamped like this Image. But I am not sure.

According to Fred's, the fake is stamped shiantai. It's also purple plastic rather than blue, and like Reminator said, the knee stickers say "Cassette".

Is it worth picking up one of these for $30, if it is in really good condition? I don't know if it is the Knock Off or not.

I already have a couple legit G1's that are really beat up.

Wait. So it's a knockoff produced in the 1980? Still seems legit for an antique. :D

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this, except that it has that big "cassette man" written on the tape deck... I'm still on the fence.
