Help for a first time custom?

Hello everyone. I'm new here, my name is Nichole.

I've never done a TF custom before and the one I'm doing is probably pretty lame. I recently bought a second Myclone Sideswipe and want to turn the second one into Sunstreaker.

It looks like it would be pretty simple. Sideswipes jet pack can come off and if I turn that upside down it will look close enough to the super charge engine Sunstreaker has. The chest plate comes off too, but I'm gonna leave it as is I think.

I have a few questions though before I really get going on this.

What sort of paint would be the best to use? some parts are like rubber while others are plastic.

And what do you suggest for the head sculpt?

Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi and Welcome to Seibertron!

You will find that the customizing community here is very helpful and pretty darn good too.

We have a group of forums dedicated to the customizing and kitbashing community

there is no such thing as a lame custom especially if its your first! Everyone has their own skill set and idea of how they want stuff to look. If I do a custom and it turns out kind of meh IMO I just call it a practice job :P

My advice for paints is varied.. I use alot of different kinds , from testors enamels to games workshops. It all depends on which your more comfortable with. Games workshop has very vibrant and lifelike colors(especially metallics) while testors will be consistent and a tad bit cheaper. For rubber area you don't want to paint just wrap em up with tin foil..It's alot more plyable than masking tape and can mold to any shappe easily..

Thank you so much!! I'll definitely check out that link you included!

And thank you for saying it's not lame. I'm a big fan of the lambo twins and I'm kinda tired of there being so few good toys of Sunstreaker and a million Sideswipe's.

I'm pretty good with paints, at least acrylics and what not. I'm a bit of an artist, but this is way different then painting on canvas or something. So, I want to have a good idea of what I'm in for before starting this cause I really don't want to mess up the myclone Sideswipe horribly lol.

Thank you very much for the advice and warm welcome!

no problem! My best advice if your a little unsure about progressing foward is to go out and find something to practice on. Maybe some of the left over ROTF Tunder mudflaps, least there in abundance..Check dollar stores for some KO figures and use them as test dummies for different paints and techniques.

I could direct you to some of the better known customizers as well..

IMO hes the best in the business, especially when it comes to tutorials and giving out tips and stuff..

Since most of us don't get the toys we want some of us take it upon ourselves to make the toys we want out of what we have..It's damn fun too!
