The third wave of Power Core Combiners Five-Packs contains some familiar names and familiar color schemes on some familiar toy figures. Entertainment Earth has posted listings, with new packaging images, for Stakeout with Protectabots and Crankcase with Destrons. Stakeout is a repaint of Smolder, while Cranckase is a repaint of Huffer. Their drones are mixed and matched from the Combaticons and Aerialbots sets. Check them out below!

definate Scourge vibe from Crankcase, which I'm loving. Would've preferred purple windows, but hey.

Military vehicles as part of the Protectobots doesn't look right. A pair of Rallybot drones painted like a police car and an ambulance ala Minerva would have been better.

Forget Scourge, this is Motormaster! :D

Closest we've gotten for a while, no question.

I'll get two and give one a purple window paintjob for my personal collection as motormaster, and the other I'll call Scourge until my hookup comes through.

I still think putting tanks with rescue vehicles is a weird thing to do. The only ones that fit with their corresponding commanders is the Blades-colored helicopter and the Wildrider-colored jeep. I'll probably end up buying Double Clutch just for his drones, and him for a temporary Generations Jazz. Seriously though, does anyone think Double Clutch's combiner head look a LOT like Jazz?!

At least they used two of the best molds for these repaints. I pretty much hate repaints, but for the most part these are all pretty good, and I'll probably pick em up. The only downside is yeah, wtf are military vehicles doing as part of the protectobots? Crankcase looks great though, no qualms with him. Would have been nice had they at least remolded the head or something. At least the paint details are significantly different.

What's your Wildrider look like? mine's a dark chrome-grey. Also, the drones are the best part about Doubleclutch, and they aren't that great.

I was really hoping we'd get some new drones too instead of repaints :/

I dunno, I don't own any original TF figures, and I was trying to base of that little post offof the Wildrider repaint of Hot Rod from the Classics. The closest thing I have to Wildrider is.... nothing. Only have TF figures that are as early as Robots in Disguise.

While I'm not too wild about these particular repaints, I like how drone repaints would let you give a Commander symmetrical limbs without buying the same set twice, and, as a bonus, the mirrored limbs wouldn't be the same color. Incidentally, the Protecto-tanks look like they would fit with Bombshock's color scheme.

Also, the one jet drone seems to be a Blue Angel.

Never thought of that. I just thought they coincidentally looked like Treadbolt a bit.

National Guard. They use tanks and other military vehicles occassionally with rescue missions. Never rule it out.

By the way, anyone wanna guess on the over-under for the number of repaints this PCCs are going to get before we see new molds? My bet is 3...1 repaint for each drone group currently out.

I think the word...UGH...sums up my feelings for these.

I was so interested in these Power Core Combiners when I first heard of them.

Even more excited when I saw them.

GLADLY purchased them...and promptly came up sooooo disappointed.

Basics size combiners with the Energon Prime drone gimmick.

I have to admit its gonna be a hard sell to make me buy a round two that is repaints of a disappointing concept to begin with.

as it stands, it looks like all of wave 1 got its own repaint... If the next wave is more repaints of wave 2 I will officially consider this line crap. I want to support this line, I REALLLLLLY do, because I love the concept at it's core. But there have been really crappy quality control issues, a ridiculous amount of repaints for the future waves already, and bad designs/matches in some cases.

At the very least, the repaints look fairly good in my opinion, except for Steelshot's Beacon (opaque red? REALLY?). It's just that they have repainted a whole freaking first wave. Reminds me of when I stopped collecting for 8 years! after Armada with their massive repainting... god I hate repaints.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if they released the car drones in Stunticon colours somewhere down the line, and I'll be shocked if there's not a green and purple repaint of the Constructicon looking set. I'll also be surprised if a lot less people complain about those repaints.

I think this setup would have made better Protectobots, with the blue rallybot painted like either Red Alert or Minerva and the black car painted like a police car. Stakeout is a nogo for me, but so are the 2-packs from this wave so no suprise.

Then you'll be happy to know that the wave after this repaint wave will have all new molds.

I'll get them both but just for the main guys themselves. I like the repaints. Not a big fan of the drones though.

You guys have to get out of your head that this is a representation of the original Protectobots or Stunticons (Destrons).

They are not. They are an homage in name only. Not meant to be the originals, but they are a part of the Protectobot sub-team.

Both commanders are very good figures, so I will probably grab both of these.

Good point dude. They arent even meant as re-imaginings. They took the old idea and tried to do something interesting with it for the kids. Any homages really are in name only.

I agree, however, it should at least fit the theme. And for the most part, I think they all do. I'd be upset if the future Constructicons included a helicopter or car, because that wouldn't fit the theme, but I doubt that'll happen. The only thing that doesn't is those military vehicles for the protectobots. I guess it could be for defensive purposes, but the theme really is rescue vehicles... Doesn't need to LOOK like G1, but at least keep the theme going. I'll still pick these up though, for once the repaints look just as good as the originals if not better.

They did what they could with the molds available to them. Each Autobot and Decepticon switched factions for the repaint. Smolder had to be the Autobot 5-pack Commander since he was the only Decepticon in the 2-packs of wave one. And since the drones were Aerialbots and the Combaticons, thats what they had to use. They weren't trying for the best possible Powercore Combiner Protectobots, just a repaint of the wave one toys with a somewhat appropriate name. "Protect" doesn't only mean rescue. Things can be protected using tanks too.

Expect to see other strange combinations for repaints later on. The third wave of repaints will feature an Autobot tank, two Dinobot drones and two Constructicon drones while the Decepticons will have a jet for a Commander and the other four drones of the fourth wave.
