Does Cybertronian Soundwave Look Movieverse?

Just out of curiosity does the WFC Soundwave look like it would fit the movie-verse of Transformers?

Add an insect face, and I would buy it more or less!

I think some people at Hasbro think so. His RPM (or whatever they're call them now) is Animateds altmode with WFC Soundwave underneath. Prior to this, the RPMs were exclusively Movieverse.

Take from that what you will.

Hmmm, not sure. But I am going to display him with my classic lines.

I imagine he would fit better in a classics dislplay - he doesn't look too movieverse to me, thankfully...

Thanks for the input. I just got the figure a week ago and it looks awesome. The unofficial boombox mode is a nice touch.

Like it matters.. we're probably going to get another Soundwave in the TF3 toyline.

If it looked like it'd fit in with the movieverse it wouldn't be on my must buy list

Nope.

WFC Soundwave looks like G1 Soundwave with a modernized twist, just the way I like it. Movie Soundwave looks like G1 Soundwave after a woodchipper accident, not even remotely close to my cup of tea.

Being fair though, there are a number of movie figure characters that don't look like they belong in the movie line anyway, so if anyone wants to make that comparison then... whatever.

I hope so, actually. ROTF Soundwave is crap. Except I know if they do another one, it won't be blue, just to mess with us.

I can sort of see it, with a new face. He's got enough sharp lines in his design to mimic the spiky aesthetic of some of the movie stuff. As a Neo-G1 collector myself, he's quite happy on my Pre-Earth shelf :3

I'd say he'd fit in ok with the movie-verse. Maybe wrap him in crumpled up tinfoil and only look at him through the bottom of an empty glass and it'd be like you're watching the movie for real!

Very true. SO far Deluxe Bludgeon, Voyager seaspray, and scout breacher have all been purchased for my classics(only) sheld. Brawn may be next...

Yeah I was just thinking this the other day. He does look rather movie-like, except for the head maybe. They actually use a picture of WFC Soundwave for the HFTD Speed Stars Soundwave packages.
I like seeing movie-like figures in other lines. And I hope the movies keep influencing that! HAHAHAHA!!! Take that movie haters.

What he said.

While it's all too possible that the designers of WFC were at least subliminally influenced by the movieverse designs, I think the WFC figs are modern Cybertronian updates of their G1 selves. I think it's safe to say that they bear a much closer resemblance to their G1 Earth modes than the movieverse ones.

I don't mean this in a negative way at all, but movieverse TF's have a sort of "scrapyard" look to them, with various pieces of vehicle parts attached to their otherwise "naked" bodies like improvised armor.

WFC designs, however, retain the same design principles of most non- or pre-movieverse designs, in which the designs are more blocky and not quite as complicated.

Honestly, I really don't see "movieverse" in the WFC figs.

the whole WFC design aesthetic was to me like they took G1 and War Within and did them through a movie lens, or perhaps the other way about. Playing the game the characters themselves have a lot of moving parts going on unnecessarily, like the movie ones, and it does give a bit more life to them. That I like. The increase in mechanical detail isn't specifically from the movieverse, but was popularised by it. Again, I don't dislike it. There's a lot of problems I do have with the movieverse designs but I don't mind seeing them influence the designers of actual Transformers.

WFC looks like Transformers, even though it looks quite different from anything before it. That's fine. Movieverse...not so much. I'm not sure I'd be able to pick out more than 3 or 4 of the TFs in the movies were they in a black and white group shot. I'm fairly certain I could distinguish the majority of the G1 cartoon or BW cast by silhouette alone. (barring those that are repaints of each other of course, before someone posts 3 blacked out Starscreams and asks which one is Thundercracker :P )

agreed movieverse gets really bad once it starts filtering into the decepticons. at least they have kept the autobots few enough in number to be known.

Cybertronian Soundwave doesn't look movieverse to me, he looks like a mix of G1 Soundwave and Cybertron Soundwave (at least in robot mode).

due to the fact that soundwave does not look like he came out of an explosion of super glue and a scrapyard I deem him not movieverse

Well the reason I asked the question is there are some nice features of WFC Soundwave - being a triple changer (unofficially) and looking for a decent stand in for Soundwave in my movieverse collection.
