Takara keeps ushering in Animated Transformers that we have long waiting for. Joining the list that started out with Blackout, the latest release will be Wingblade Optimus Prime. The figure has made it's way into the possession of Transformers insider KOToys, and he offers up a little gallery of the figure. This version of Optimus will feature a mix of clear and solid plastic. His weapons are mis-transformed in robot mode, but we still get a nice look at what the figure has to offer.

Where do the wings and other accessories go in Alt mode?

So, is it, or is it not, safe to say that the Wingblade additions and accessories will be fully compatible with the US Voyager Prime?

See, I really want the Wingblade stuff, but I really dislike the Takara translucent plastic.

They can replace his current trailer (the axe).

They attach to each other to create some form of a wing pack with guns. It snaps in place the same way the original trailer piece does.

I know it's not a trailer, but that's what it's been referred to as for a long time now. Anyone else got a new name for it?

Its made to fit both the voyager and deluxe version, since both Hasbro and Takara is using the same mold for voyager Optimus then yes it is safe to say.

Oh, of course they do.

Problem is, it will end up costing them more to try and get it to you and have it fail at retail, than it is to just let TakaraTomy take the risk.

Hasbro, at this point, can look towards the future and move on. If they get a chance, they'll come back to Animated, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

After they told us to buy the TakaraTomy figures, that was pretty much a sign to me that they're saying "We'll try, but we're pretty much done."

And considering it's been over for the better part of a year, going back to Animated, especially without a show, is a bad business idea for Hasbro. Kids won't buy 'em, collectors might, but some of them have moved on.

So...yeah. I is sad panda. :(

Wonder why they decided to use the translucent plastic on this guy? I don't recall him glowing or anything like that when he used this armor in the show. Not that I'm complaining, I'll just use the accessories with the voyager OP I already have and display the base figure as another "crystal" OP.

Sadly, I'm underwhelmed by the Wing Blade accessory parts.

All good points, but I still think they could release whatever they wanted under Generations if they discarded their deluxe-only rule. With there being so much time since it ended, I'm sure kids would see it and think it's cool. Although, without a show to back it up, and other cool Primes on the market, maybe not.

As for this release, too metallic, just as I expected. So even if I just swap in my Hasbro Voyager Prime, it'll still look funny. Pass. My Prime doesn't need wings that bad.

Man, come the 18th I'm gonna be buying this guy so hard that my wallet will suffer friction burns. I love that he has a trailer, I love the God Ginrai homage (I'm not the only one who sees that, right?) and I'll be sure to lay down my verdict here on Seibertron.

Wait a minute... So the wings point down when attached to the Voyager and up when on the Deluxe, with the engines rotating. Weird. Or do the wings rotate as well?

The translucent plastic is done to set it apart from the regular release, as not to make it feel like you're buying the same toy with extras. Me likey. However, I'm still waiting on a clean version of the Deluxe. Yes, I'm looking at both of you.

I see the homage too. It's part of why I want it so much. I'd like to see pictures of it attached to the US voyager. I won't be displaying the delicious candy Prime.

I do love the homage too. Augh... dammit Hasbro, release it already! I can't pay $55 for some arm parts.

The wings rotate too as do the tips from the look of it.

This looks pretty cool.
