Universe Galvatron and Tankor.

I have seen this figure at my local drug store for $17 for the last few months. I decided to check it out finally, not being a real big fan of G1 Galvy, and I must say I was surprised. I like tank alt. modes and the cover art was pretty good. But is the toy worth having? I mean, is posability and the features accurate? I don't want to spend $17 on a Voyager size figure, espeically if it sucks.
I also saw a Tankor (Octane) next to it, which looked pretty good. Thoughts on that?

I refuse to pay that much for those particular Deluxe molds. I do wish I would have picked Galvatron up while he was in the stores, but that was for cheaper than normal price. Oh well, I don't feel like I am missing out much at all.

Tankor is ok but not at that price. If you see Galvatron for $2 it is $1 over what I would consider a decent price.

Wow, that bad? Is it just a brick? I looked at the gallery at this site and it seemed to be a decent figure...

I would recommend picking up the Universe 3 pack. At least that way you get a decent Rodimus for the Protector armor, an awesome looking Cyclonus and you can leave the POS Galvatron in it's box where it deserves to be.

You should get Tankor. He has a few flaws, but he's a really interesting toy.
Galvatron is a sack of fail. He's an engineering, visioning, and marketing failure.

To further explain:
1 ) Galvatron is over-engineered. He's got the complexity of a Voyager class figure stuffed into a Deluxe size class, meaning that many parts are just too small to do their jobs properly, and ends up with kibble hanging off that could have latched tight against parts if he was a larger figure.
2 ) Galvatron doesn't so much transform as emerge, with about half a tank hanging off his back.
3 ) Only the 6" Titaniums have a worse record for parts just falling off at a glance than Galvy.
THIS is why Universe Galvatron is blech. I personally am not that fond of Tankor (Octane), but it's an aesthetic thing.

Counterpunch speaks the truth, you would be wise to accept his and my opinion. Trust me, if you buy Galvatron, especially at that price, you will never forgive yourself.

Gentlemen, you have convinced me. I never owned a Galvatron from anywhere except the Armada and RiD repaints, and it will stay that way. Thank you for your help. As for Octane, when I get the spare cash I'll take a second look.

Much as I love complex transformations Galvatron is just too fiddly. And he can't stand up. He can hold some poses but stand to attention very well. His knees are where the middle of the thigh should be. You're not missing out on him.
As for Tankor maybe you could get an unboxed version on ebay. He's pretty good but he does rely on a large thing that can be used as a shield or melee weapon to make his alt modes convincing. He's fun but I wouldn't pay over the odds for him.

Agreed on both points.. I was so hoping Galvatron would be a decent fig but after I bought him I realized what a waste of my money he was.

Bought em both, sold em both. Didn't even bother giving them to the kids.

Mark one down for actually liking Universe Galvatron... I think he's fun and looks awesome. I think he's a lot better than Tankor anyhow (who is also decent.) In fact, I'll say I like him the best out of that upcoming 3 pack...new or original colors. As for the price, at this stage in the game, $17 for a MOSC fig that hasn't been on most retail shelves for well over a year isn't bad. Looks like it can be had loose off eBay for a few bucks cheaper if you have a little patience, but if you want it new and you factor in shipping, you're not going to find a much better price without a lot of luck.
...unless you wait for the 3 pack with Cyclonus and a Rodimus with messed up, baby blue windows. I'd probably just do that to be honest. That set will probably be $30 or less and you get another cool fig in Cyclonus...and another Rodimus, which guessing by your screen name, you wouldn't mind. And if that set doesn't surface at Target (or US retail elsewhere,) it doesn't sound like the drug store figs are going anywhere anytime soon.

Since I'm a fan of the character, I picked up Henkei Galvatron, and I don't regret it. He's certainly flawed, but worth having IMO. Universe, maybe not so much due to the ugly paint scheme. One could argue the chrome on the Henkei version is ridiculous, and you would be correct, but it's still better than the darker purple and orange on the Universe one. I keep him in robot mode, and he looks great next to Cyclonus, if a little short in comparison.

Don't have them both because people told me don't get them.

I had Galvatron- sold him, just couldn't get past his kibble and fiddly nature. Too much going on in too small a fig, as described above.
Also had and sold Tankor, but regret it, might pick him up again. Also kibbly and fiddly but better than Galvatron. Plus, triplechanger.

I actually like Universe Galvy. He looks like the character and is the right size to stand with Cyclonus and Scourge (either Titanium, Botcon, or the upcoming deluxe). Every other iteration of G1 Galvy is just MUCH too large.
Of course, if you don't like or don't care about G1 Galvy, he probably isn't for you.

Oh, but I dissent! And I'm glad I see others do, too!
The toy has a bad rap, but beside from his kibbly legs and backpack, he's great modern update to Galvatron in the deluxe size. $17 doesn't seem so bad when you consider that buying him online, you'd have to pay for shipping.
Plus, you can do
this .

And listen, guys, just because we have an inferior deluxe Galvatron now, doesn't mean we won't get an awesome Leader/Ultra/Voyager neo-G1 Galvatron further down the road. Or hell, go crazypants and buy the $150 Energon Galvatron. But damn it, I like this deluxe toy. Don't ruin him for me!

I'd be tickled pink if we do get a Voyager Galvatron. He wouldn't be to scale with Cyclonus and Scourge (remember? They're all roughly the same size), but who cares? Give him a blaster and/or cannon mode and I'm set.
Except I'm not counting on that to happen...

very seriously considering getting the 3 pack. I don't have any of the toys, and I like the colours on Galvatron (all of them actually, but the other releases of Hot Rod and Cyclonus have been good too) but I hear so many bad things about it. I'm glad some people have come in to defend the toy. I can have quite different opinions on TFs from the majority at times (I like Deluxe Classics Prime, at least as a robot) so I'll look into this further.

For Galvatron, if you enjoy the character, you'll probably enjoy the figure. There are some definite flaws with the figures, but for me, it's Galvatron, plain and simple. As said, in good scale with Cyclonus and (hopfully) the upcoming Generations Scourge. Plus, the tank mode is really good. Nicely detailed, and just looks like a real tank. Final thought? Really glad I got him.
Tankor? A fun triple changer, though not quite as good as Astrotrain. The tanker truck mode is passable, but there's definitely something off about it. The gun smoke stacks are a nice touch. Plane mode? Very good, propellers! The only funky thing is the shield hanging off the bottom of the plane, and taking it off makes it look naked. Articulation's standard, weapons are O.K., though he can't hold the claw boomerang things as a proper shield. Final thought? Also glad I got him, but I'm getting most of Classics anyway.

I'll agree that Galvy is flawed, but that doesn't mean he's a complete waste. I think that he would be a terrible toy for a child to play with, considering how complex the transformation is, and how easily limbs and such fall apart. However, as a display piece, I really appreciate how well he sizes up to Cyclonus (and soon Scourge!) Also, just standing there, posed, looking evil and menacing with that huge cannon, it's pretty easy to forgive the fact that he's imperfect.

I always thought that the Energon Deluxe (?) sized TRU Megatron would make a great Galvatron. I have one, but I kept in box so long that I'm not going to take him out.

Galvatron was a big disappointment. He should have been voyager size not deluxe. CP sounded off about him prior to his release, and he was right. I have him in parts in my case.
Tankor is different. He has believable modes, and the figure has tone of poseabililty, it just lacks a neck. I tried to see if there was a fix, but from taking him apart mine had QC issues. The hole serated blade shield is nice. I have the Universe version, but I want a Henkei version to see if the QC issues were corrected.
get Tankor, trash Galvatron.
