They cost so much because they're limited exclusives of some sort. Hasbro already released Skywarp so it's probably not very likely they'll re-release him. Thundercracker is anyone's guess.

Let see:
1.They are Exclusive to Japan.
That means they have to be imported. That right there adds to the regular price at least 20 bucks.
2. The only other way to get Thundercracker is through Botcon. Hasbro as of yet has not released him. So being the only to get him, increases demand and brings prices up.
3. The only way to get Skywarp over here was in the 2 pack with Magnus, which is now in the low $100's because everybody wanted a Magnus for the Commander Armor, so it drives the prices of Skywarp up as well.
4. Its been a while since they were released, so like with every other figure that has high demand, the prices also go up.
They are expensive because they are hard to get, and there aren't that many around.
Are they worth it? If you are a die hard seeker fan sure. Otherwise you may not be willing to pay that much.
I know I'm not willing to pay that much for Thundercracker. Fortunately I already own a Hasbro Skywarp I got when they were out, so at least I have him while I wait for Hasbro to release Thundercracker.

I'd recommend getting the hasbro Skywarp he's cheaper and you might want to get Henki version of Thundercracker if your worried about cost considering Thundercracker was only available at Botcon and buying him online can be very costly I myself may get him when I start working again and can't find the Robotmaster versions of both

If there's any indication from the direction they're going towards, I'm pretty sure there will be a Generations Thundercracker before the line ends. However I'd try to get Skywarp from Hasbro, the Henkei version will be a bit more expensive... It's funny, before FansProject Commander, Skywarp was the figure everyone wanted from the 2-pack, so people dumped the Magnus. Now everyone wants the Magnus, and dump the Skywarp..

That is funny, because I noticed the same thing. I bought the 2 pack for the same reason. But, I did like the Magnus figure and was very happy Fansproject upgraded him.

They were store-exclusives in Japan, too.
As for the Magnus 2-pack, I don't think Magnus leveled up the price of that, Skywarp has his share on that, too (besides, the black armor with Nemezis Prime is much cooler)
If you want Skywarp, I recommend getting the Hasbro MP version instead. *checks e-bay* it is still available around 35 $, which is a bargain price for the awesomeness of the figure.

Doesn't really fit with CLASSICS/Generations very well though. But it is a good deal.

$35.00? All the Wal-Marts in my neck of the woods have them on the clearance rack for $25.00 or less. I saw one in a crumpled box for $9.99, the figure still looked fine.

None, were ever clearanced in my area. They were put in the clearance section, but still full-priced. Now are gone...

Man that sucks. The WM's around here do put a lot of stuff in the clearance area, but leave it at full price. That wasn't the case with Skywarp though, his price continues to drop. I still see him at almost every WM I visit.

My 2 cents.
The reason Thundercraker and Skywarp are so expensive is they are exclusives in both the US and Japan.
Skywarp was in the two-pack with Magnus
Thundercracker Botcon exclusive.
When the Henkei version were released, the numbers were based on orders filled. At one point you could get them both for $125, then once the online stores sold out, they began to climb up in price in the secondary (eBay) market.
Henkei Skywarp is not as expensive as Henkei Thundercracker, but this is because the Classics was a Botcon exclusive.
However, the QC issues with Henkei Thundercracker and Skywarp is they have very loose joints.
Henkei Thundercracker's arm launchers would not stay in place like the Classics' versions. I sold him because I will get the Botcon version or if Hasbro produces one, I'll buy that.
As for Henkei Skywarp, I traded him and stuck with my Classics version which is still tight in the joints and holds well.
If you really need both here's what you do:
Track down either version of Skywarp. I got a mint one for $8 at my local flea market. On Ebay you may come out better maybe $20 or more for the Classics' version. If you go for the Henkei Skywarp, his joints may be loose and you would have overpaid for what I think for once with Henkei as an inferior toy for an exclusive. But I have seen sell for around $40 to $60 if he's sold alone.
Henkei Thundercracker is $100 easy. You might get around this if they go auction style, but even then I paid $99. It was just loose. Not a fluke or overuse, just loose. Many people have said the quality of the the Henkei exclusives suffer. If you really need one get the Botcon version or wait for a possible HAsbro release.
So far my Generations Thrust feels and looks top notch. I hope Dirge is the same.

It's stuff like this that makes me hate Australian retailers.
$35US for MP? That converts to no more than $50AU and we're paying $80-$100AU for what MP's we get out here and because of the price there's never too many and take eons to get marked down. (If they even do get marked down)
