My thoughts on Generations

Hi, I have never been this excited about a Transformers toy line since G1. The designs for the existing toys from Generations and all the upcomming toys that were just shown are amazing. Never before have I wanted to be a completist but this line is just so appealing. So many fan fan favorites such as Blurr, Jazz, Tracks, Wreck-gar, Thunderwing, Skullgrin, Perceptor and the still to be shown Kup are all getting long overdue updates, not to mention some characters who never had a toy like G1 Arcee, Straxus and Drift mixed with the awesome designs from War for Cybertron. This is a good time to be a G1 fan. Hasbro have created three toy lines (Generations, Hunt for the Decepticons and Powercore Combiners) so their customers can choose what they want to follow without mixing it all together and it is working.

As a G1 fan, Generations is fantastic. I have no interest in the other two lines so buying everything from this line is easier than previous years, actually I am preordering whole waves from BBTS (I can't get them in stores where I am). I have wave 1 already, wave 3 and 4 are on the way as I type (Blurr and Dirge just shipped). I also plan to get two Wreck-gar's to pose him riding a motorbike and the United rerelease of Henkei Bumblebee since I don't have that mold yet (except Botcon Bugbite).

Does anyone else feel the same as I do about this line?

I'd say I feel a similar passion towards the PCC line, and using Generations as filler, and I have no interest in anything connected with the movie-verse, so HftD is out. Generations is pretty awesome though, as what they are releasing is amazing to me as an adult now as how the brick toys of days yore were to me when I was a meer child. I'm not thrilled about the return of rubsigns though, they look rather tacky on otherwise well designed molds. just a preference.

I too am excited about Generations and also HFTD. Sadly I'll also have to shell out extra money to import them all.

Generations is continuing right where Classics left off.

So far they've done an outstanding job with their selections and I haven't given up on a deluxe G1 Arcee, Blitzwing or voyager Shockwave....(unlikely)
And more likely Thundercracker in his cool G1 blue!

Hope they do a good job with Kup. :P

I'm a big fan of the Generations toyline. It's combining fan centric product choices with great toy design. These toys succeed on an emotional level(for G1 fans at least) and on a functional level as easy to play with toys that have enough complexity in transformation design to provide satisfying transformation experiences.

I completely agree. I lost hope in collecting much of anything Transformers, because nothing really appealed to me and all the older stuff was a bit too pricey, but now, with theses generations pieces, im in overdrive trying to collect as much as i can, because not only are the cybertronian pieces awesome, due to the game, so are the reissue/improved G1 pieces.

Im extremely excited that they decided to do this and ill be buying up all the waves as they come out as well!

Me, too. I am just so happy seeing Jazz finally after all these years. The legend one is nice but the scale is not right. Hopefully these generation lines won't be a pain in the neck to find them in the stores.

I am absolutely floored by the Generations lineup. However, take that with as many grains of salt as you like. This is the first complete Transformers line release to come out since I got back into Transformers about a year and a half ago, so this is the first time I'm going through a full release cycle. It's pretty exciting, though I have no doubt that I'd have been as excited had I been following Classics or Universe

I now have a complete set of both Classics and Universe (Deluxe Class on up, except for the Classics Starscream) with all three combiners (paid hefty aftermarket on several, especially Classics and particularly Devastator, though I was lucky to do it when I did, else I'd be paying even more now!), and to see my collection grow with the incredible lineup they've announced is nothing short of exhilarating. I glow with utter happiness and satisfaction every time I add a character to my shelf, and this Generations lineup already has me bouncing off the walls. 8)

This line, along with Universe and Classics before it, is really driving my love for TF. Wonderful updates to my favorite figures.

Ive gotta admit that i do like some of the HFTD line, although only about 50%. Sidearm Sideswipe went a long way to restore my faith.

But Generations.... damn. i love them.

I got Hot Rod when classics first came out but then stupidly i shifted to movieverse figures, and later the amazing animated, but i came back with Universe Cyclonus and now im hooked. Apart from the continual retoolings of the Prowl and Sunstreaker moulds, i plan on getting at least one of each figure in generations, with 2 Wreck Gar's and at least 3 Scourge's. I just wish there were some decent Voyager figures in the pipeline, i like animated figures being incorporated into HFTD but id love to see Sentinel Prime or a decent Constructicons (the single characters, not devastator) in Generations. Guess i can dream

Still, for the first time since i watched the original series i have almost got the complete seekers set. Just hoping Thundercracker makes an overdue appearance

I love the Generations figures. I love the whole Classics-esque set of lines. With the movie toys and Animated I went back to buying G1s and older lines like RiD because for the most part I just don't care for the movie or Animated toys. Plus, I always loved the original Universe toys, even though they were just repaints and sometimes not very pretty ones at that. Hell yeah Generations.

I haven't picked up any figures other than Drift yet (and actually, he was a gift) but this line looks choc-full of awesome. However, when I set up my new aquisition next to my Universe Prowl, I can't even believe how much awesome Drift brings to the table. I'm not talking about his fanboy-pleasing character (so if you don't like Drift, substitute "Blurr"), but the actual figure looks like they went all-out to really make him special. Compared to Prowl, Drift can stand up easily without extra effort balancing him, can be set up in a ton of different poses (also while maintaining his balance) and just generally seems a heck of a lot better engineered.

So my question is this: Are all of the other Generations molds so far (excluding re-paints) made to this quality? If they are, then this line may just be the best darn thing to happen to Transformers in recent history.

I would generally say yes. After thinking that the Classics and Universe lines were so cool, that they had gone and reimagined and paid homage to the G1 characters, what I've seen of Generations so far has blown me away. Now admittedly, I only have the four Wave 1 characters (darn stores aren't even close to stocking beyond that), but other than Cybertronian Optimus being a little back heavy, I find that the overall quality, ingenuity, and posability makes Generations head over heals better than the previous two lines. I keep going to the recently-released stock photos of some of the upcoming figures (Jazz, Windcharger, Wreck-Gar, et al) just so I can drool over them a little more.

And so far, the only redecos we're getting are of the Classics seeker mold and molds made for the generations line. Almost all of the figures coming out are from Generations molds.

Me too - I am so excited about this line. Already there are so many favourites or characters who were long overdue Classics figures that have been announced. :D

Remember that Takara Tomy's Transformers United line starts at the end of the year too. I wonder if they'll have any cool repaints or characters that aren't already in Generations... :-?
