Essential Optimuses?

So I collect a lot of different figures, but I have a particular soft spot for Optimus Prime. Starting from when my collecting spirit first rekindled, just before RotF, I've acquired:

RotF Leader Optimus
TF'07 Voyager Robo-Vision Optimus
RotF Legends Power Armor Optimus
Mini-figure with RotF Stratosphere

Animated Voyager Optimus
Animated Deluxe Cybertron Optimus
Animated Activators Armor Up Optimus

Universe G1 Series Optimus

Generations WfC Optimus

I plan to add Masterpiece/20th Anniversary Optimus when I can find it for a good price. But I feel that there is a rather large gap, and that I could do with some more pre-Bay Optimuses (Optimusi?). My question is, which toys are considered the indispensable representations of our great leader?

It's also worth noting that I prefer to have only one version of a mold, unless there are very noticeable differences.

RiD Prime and Classics/Henkei Voyager Prime are amongst the best. MP Prime is essential though.

R.I.D and Classics should be top priority after MP.

Though you may want to look at Armada's Bendy Prime a.k.a Super Con Optimus Prime too.

I fully agree on RiD, Classics, and MP Prime.

I might also suggest WST and SG Prime if you can get them.

From the same exact thread 6 months ago:

Device Label Optimus Prime- That new head on the G1 body is beautiful.

Reissue Star Convoy- If you have one, you know why. If not, you'll never understand...

MP-01 Convoy- The first and best Masterpiece.
Animated Voyager Optimus Prime- The ax from the 2-pack makes it perfect. You know, until the Wingblade Optimus comes out!

Henkei Convoy- I love love love the Classics Optimus and have put a lot of play wear on him but the Henkei one is just better to look at on the shelf and never touch. The mold is great in all its uses.

RiD Optimus Prime- Minus the stupid articulation-ruining armor. I still don't understand why people insist that the armor is an improvement. It's like throwing a berka on a Victoria's Secret model! And with Armada Leader Prime's cannon, holy CRAP is that cool!

BONUS ROUND!!!
eHobby Orion Pax- I have a custom accurate head and the Reprolabels upgrade on it. Seriously, it's one of the coolest things I own and the only other person who has one like it is Lapse of Reason.

For "Classic" factor:

G1 Prime in some shape or form

G1 Powermaster Prime

For "Modern" factor:

Classics Prime (or Henkei, your choice)

ROTF Prime (surpasses 2007 Prime in nearly every way)

For "Fun" factor:

Armada Deluxe size class "Bendy" Prime

Cybertron / Galaxy Force Prime

For "You CANNOT *not* have this" factor:

20th Prime / MP-01 (the later versions such as DVD Prime are acceptable, but not preferred)

For "Hey, it's Optimus" factor:

Animated Prime (any version)

Generations: War for Cybertron Optimus Prime

G2 Laser "Octane" Prime - most badass Optimus (and according to the pics, the original beats the future Generations figure by miles) - plus, he has a badass battlestation

G2 Prime - "I'm Optimus Prime!" - black trailer and added speaker. Nuff Said.

I personally think one of the underated essential Optimus/convoy to have right now is Henkei Convoy.
Had Classics, which was nice for what it is worth, but Henkei is more G1, but with the nEo Look than the Neo look with odd paint apps.

Also why the hate for Super Base Prime. I think he is a Prime that embodies the old style G1 with a new style of Transform.

G1 Prime
Classics/Henkei
Power Master Prime
RID Prime
RoTF Prime (though I enjoy the 07 model better)

My initial response: all of them. But, then I thought about it, and there are some you can do without. Personally, over the last year, I went on a Prime/Megatron binge. I bought a bunch of Primes and Megatrons from G1 to RoTF, with a few exceptions.

War Within
War for Cybertron
Powermaster Prime/Tank Megatron (G2)
Beast Wars (10th anniversary set)
RID
Armada
Energon
Galaxy Force (Cybertron)
2007 movie leaders
Animated voyagers
RoTF leaders (Battle Hooks and Shadow Command)
Masterpiece Prime

I thought about getting MP Megatron, but I decided against it. Maybe if I have the extra $100 or so. I would like to get Laser Optimus Prime, but I need to find a good Megatron to go with it. Suggestions? And since we're on the topic, am I missing any good ones?

Oh, and I believe the correct spelling is Optimi. Like radius/radii, cactus/cacti. Optimus/Optimi.

I know that no one else likes this but for a display piece he is great.

Animated Supreme Optimus Prime

He is huge.

There's a whole list as some have mentioned, but I think in the coming year, talk to people on the boards, check out Carbombya and eBay and keep your eyes open for good prices on the following:

Masterpiece Optimus Prime
Classics Optimus Prime
Cybertron/Galaxy Force Optimus Prime

Masterpiece offers the quintessential "Prime"ness, being an overall superbly designed toy with tons of accessories, play and nostalgia value. He's a bit heavy to play with realistically, but as a display piece I'd say this is the one toy you NEED to have. Someday. Don't rush it though.

Classics is the best modern representation of the G1-aesthetic. I'm not sure how much you care about G1, since you're obviously into the movies, but it's a fantastic figure with a good look and good accessories. On top of that, there've been dozens of add-ons and extras that third party companies have provided over the years, making him one of the most "customizable" figures in recent years.

Cybertron I put on there because, quite frankly, he's my favorite version of Optimus I own. The toy is just incredibly fun, has a buttload of guns, can combine with his trailer OR Wing Saber OR Leobreaker/Leo Prime, and looks fantastic in any of those modes. I'm not a big fan of duplicates in my collection, but it's the one figure after getting a prettier version (Sonic Convoy) I've still decided to keep, purely on the play value and the fact that there's so many different ways to display him. And the best part? He's probably the cheapest out of all these guys to get on the secondary market.

The reason I limit the world of choices to three is because I think you should start out with only that, or even two. Get a couple of different Optimi (heh, I like that) from different lines and decide if you like the difference in aesthetics enough to keep buying him solely for the character. Take a look at Seibertron's galleries and tfu.info, find figures that look cool, do some research as to prices and get what you can afford, first. Then you can start saving up for the big guns.

GET IT HE HAS BIG GUNS HA HA

*ahem* And that's my three and a half cents.

just a bit of addendum

If you do get RiD Optimus Prime, consider grabbing RiD Ultra Magnus too.

They combine to form Omega Prime, the Primeiest Prime ever.

Too true. I sold off mine because it had no accessories, and I've regretted it ever since...
