Which Megatron to get?

I'm new here (I've been reading this site for a few years now, but I just got around to joining), and am currently building up my Classics/Universe/Generations collection so that I'll have as much of the main G1 cast as possible. However, I don't currently have a suitable Megatron figure. I recently bought the War for Cybertron version, but I haven't opened it yet. I love the way it looks, and if size weren't an issue, it'd be the perfect Megatron for my collection, but it looks like it will be too small next to figures like Classics Prime or the Seekers. I want some Megatron figure that has the basic G1 look and the proper colours, as well as a good size. Do you have any advice on what Megatron I should use? Should I keep WFC Megatron, or use some other one?

Welcome to Seibertron! This is my recommendation:
http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/prod ... ode=retailHe's the latest incarnation of the Classics Voyager Megs mold for the upcoming Takara United line.

Welcome,
Sadly the good Megatron's are sim pickings for a Generations line up.
However, if you don't mind paying a bit more, Takara is going to release a new version of classics Megatron soon.
Basically this:

With a few less paint apps:

That's the closest you are going to get for now to the G1 look. And he's a Voyager so he's better size wise than WFC Megs.

Thanks for your suggestions so far! I have been considering Henkei Megatron, but I never liked Megatron much as a gun. I'll still consider him, though. The robot mode does look pretty good.

Yeah I completely hate the "wings" kibble on the classics megatron. I guess you could get a 'beast wars' megatron or the Armada megatron is pretty sweet.

If Gun Megatron doesn't work for you, then may I sugges the Voyager-sized Energon Megatron. I think it was a TRU exclusive some years back.
http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... tron/1510/I think he'll be slightly bigger and beefier than Classics Prime, but he's a marvelous figure.

In that case I recommend Animated Megs awesomeness:

Or if you can spare the dough this guy is going for, Botcon Megatron:

Most awesome Megatron to date.

I'd have to second Henkei Megs, but if that doesn't work and you like WFC other than the size, I'd also second Animated Megs...either leader or voyager as both have similarities to the look of WFC Megs, but with more size.

I suggest Henkei Megs, but I'd advise you to keep WFC Megs as well. In and of himself, he's a great looking figure and everything a well-designed Megatron should be: imposing, powerfully built, and sports a HUGE-ass fusion canon.

I'm sure someone has tried this, but it looks easy enough to remove a pin or two in order to get the wings off of Classics/Henkei Megatron, and then just snap them on and off for gun mode. I've never tried because they don't bother me that much.

I've seen some pictures of Megatrons with the wings removed.
I think that Animated leader Megatron might be the best choice. I like the size, and the colour scheme is pretty G1-accurate. I have the black repaint of him, and I wasn't terribly impressed with it, but it was partly because I don't like the colour scheme much. The normal one looks a lot better. I also might use the Animated voyager one, since I already have it.

G2 Megatron. He's a fair bit bigger than Classics Prime, but that was also the same with Laser Rod Prime. However - he does sport a rather enormous cannon, have a cool head sculpt and have the most annoying electronic voice gimmick ever.
MEGATRON ATTACK
I still recommend it, though.

Classics Megatron works well enough for me. I know his colors are rather abhorrent to most collectors, but I've come to respect it for what it represents... plus I did a bit of custom work to break up the colors a bit more. I'm sure most will point in the direction of Henkei Megatron, which I also have, and while it's less virulently colored than the American classic version it is kinda bright overall. The upcoming United version will probably appeal the most to G1 accurate color schemes... but that's a big detriment in my opinion, making the design look so... plain.
And of course there is the issue of kibble... I can see where people would get off on not liking it since Megs isn't well known for having wings, let alone gigantic ones that basically make him a shellformer. Personally though, I think they make his silhouette look that much more intimidating, Plus I always like the idea of a Decepticon leader having prominent kibble-y features that add a sense of authority.

I have the Hasbro one too and still very satisfied with him despite the color. Yes, the wings are annoying and sometimes make display difficult. But I haven't removed them so guess they are not that bad. I'd owned the Cybertron bat mobile Megatron (or Galvatron as the color is more G1). It is looking very cool and the size is decent. Hate to let it go but sold him because of space and budget issue.
I will suggest keep WFC Megatron. He displays so well together with WFC Optimus Prime (I don't have WFC Bumblebee and I put WFC Soundwave with my classics, he fits pretty well there). If you still not sure about him, don't open it and at least you can return it in 3 months. Otherwise, he is a better toy than WFC OP IMO as OP has too much kibbles and over complicated transformation.

The new Henkei Megatron is probably the best one. I use the Hasbro Classics on my shelf. I am not bothered by the neon-green on him.

There are ways to pose Henkei Megatron with his wings attached together on his back like a big barrel, a la G1... it gets in the way, but it looks a lot better than wings.

I agree with pretty much everything here. I actually like the wings. Megs can fly anyway right, so wings aren't a big stretch of the imagination, and they make him look quite imposing. I'd pick Henkei Megs out of the three, the new one does look a bit plain IMO.
I like WFC Megs too though. And Animated Leader Megs. And Masterpeice Megs is the best gun mode (particularly with the stock/silencer add ons). Arrghh so many Megatrons!

buy a G1 then buy a Classics. Either Henkei or Hasbro and display that one behind the G1 in a good pose.
I personally like to pose my G1's along side their newschool incarnations.

If you must choose one Megatron to buy...and ONLY one....My suggestion will mirror many others....
Henkei Megatron.
It's a magnificent figure indeed! Sure he has that weird back-kibble, but I got used to it and now I actually LIKE it! Classics Megatron is in those obscene colors that stab painfully at the Geewunner in me and antagonize it mercilessly! "Megatron DOES NOT have green eyes!!!!"

The colors just repulse me, but Tak/Tom made it right!

Quite right! His eyes should be YELLOW!

I kid...kinda. Really though, I've more or less gotten used to the green eyes(or I would've if I hadn't painted the light piping red x~x) mostly because of how he was pulled off in the TFCC classics fiction. Plus I think green piping glows a lot more intensely than red, which makes him all the more intimidating as he glares at you.

Pshaw. Red eyes are way scarier.
Everyone knows that.

Masterpiece Megatron? Anyone?
Seriously, though, the Classics/Henkei mold with it's wings is still a fairly badass Megatron. I've got the classics version with the green and purple and blaze orange, and he's magnificent. I've passed up Henkei Megs twice with the figure staring me right in the face simply because I didn't feel the need to replace the one I've got.
