Well, I was formerly an on-off Transfan, and I am always prone to skipping over good lines and figures then regretting it later.
In this case, I have done the really dumb thing by skipping voyager Classics Optimus Prime. I can't find him cheap, but I still really want him. But recently I discovered the newer Takara Henkei variation that has different paint applications, which I found cheaper new than the Hasbro version new. Which one should I go for?

Definitely the Henkei more so if its cheaper.

Yes, the Henkei one is worth paying a little extra for so if you can actually get it cheaper than the Hasbro one would cost you...no brainer.

Definately go with Henkei. I sold my Classics Prime when they went with the second run of Henkei Prime. Not only did my Classics Prime sell for nearly twice what I paid for it, it paid for most of my Henkei Prime, so win win.

The one negative about Henkei Prime is the red on the cab is different shades. It's not too bad, but it's less than ideal. But in bot mode Henkei is far superior and the chrome is real nice, too.

As an owner of Classics Prime, I can honestly say this: If you can get the Henkei one for cheaper than Classics, do it up, man. The Classics Prime mold is one of the best Primes out there, and the Henkei version's colours are a lot closer to G1 style than Classics. I'd also recommend that after you get Prime, complete him with Fansproject's G3 Trailer. It really helps with his vehicle mode, and the battle platform is pretty impressive. Plus it's got it's mirrored "stealth mode", launching Roller drone and chrome weapons for a few Classics/Universe guys.

Henkei all the way because of the superior pain job (no stupid yellow).

no autobot symbols on the shoulders with the hasbro version, actually, no symbols at all really.

Prime isnt prime without the autobot symbol

plus chrome
plus a more G1 colour scheme

Yep, Henkei, easily. If you can get him for cheaper than Classics, even better!

Sounds like I should go for the Henkei. I may get Megatron too since I can find him even cheaper. Oh, and Henkei Galvatron too. I don't care what anyone says about him.

I think Henkei definitely looks better, but it would be more expensive, although either one would be pretty expensive now. If you can find Henkei for a good price, I'd get it, but they're similar enough in my opinion that Classics would be good enough if Henkei is a lot more expensive.

In a lot of places, the Henkei version is going for the same price new as the Hasbro classics one is going loose. I don't know why the Hasbro is worth so much now. It's going at least twice as much as the Henkei new.

To be honest, as they are the same mold, they are both great.

The Henkei version has the slightly better attention to detail and the chrome is certainly awesome. However you can't really go wrong with either of them. I'd say if budget is going to be the deciding factor, then just simply get whichever one is cheaper.

I'm going to go against the crowd and say get the classics version, if for only one detail that I personally prefer. That being the gray upper arms. I have both a henkei and classics prime myself, but the only reason I got the henkei one is because the paint on my classic version was constantly decaying and I wanted something to look good for display. Since the paint's chipping anyway and I got the D.I.A. commander armor that chips paints that I've been told it shouldn't, I've decided to hide the classics prime under that so at least he doesn't go to waste.

Just remember that no matter which one you get it'll be prone to paint chipping/melting on the translucent kibble parts. I've had to clear coat more and more of my TFs because of that!

The Powered Commander add-on is designed to go with the Classics deco, not the Henkei. That's especially evident in the forearm kibble.
