THS Hybrid Convoy

A few questions...
Hybrid Style Optimus Prime: I noticed recently there does appear to be quite a few still available on eBay for reasonable money. However, should I get him? Is he really any good? Will he serve as a suitable stopgap until I get my MP final edition Prime in March or should I just simply save my money?
All suggestions welcome.
Thanks

I got the black version, and totally don't regret getting him. I do need to tell you he can be quite fiddly with the small parts, and you need to switch hands for some poses. Aside from that, he's perfect as a Masterpiece Prime Mini-Me.

I've just seen the black version on eBay and he does look awesome, however he's almost three times the price of the 'classic' version. I wasn't looking to spend that much just before Christmas, so I'd basically narrowed my choices down to Henkei classic Prime and Hybrid Prime.

It's the same mold, plus a few extras. I'm not pushing you into getting the black one, you know? Just saying what I like about the mold itself, not the colors.

Sorry mate, having just read that back I think it's come across wrong or something. I really do appreciate your advice. I wasn't having a go or anything like that. What I in fact meant to convey, was that having now seen the black version, I want him to. Of course if money wasn't a major factor I'd probably end up getting them both.
Thanks again for your help.

Get the plain red version first and see how you like him. If you get both you can use the black trailer and the added guns to simulate G2 Optimus Prime. You can even switch the head with the ones provided by the black version

Now
that was pushing to the purchase of the black version

He's not much for transforming...too small and fiddly to get the tabs tabbed in (not to mention the alt mode kinda sucks,) but he looks quite cool (in bot mode) and is quite poseable. That said, it's hard for me to make a recommendation. Depends on what you look for in a TF...if it's important to actually transform then I'd probably say pass. If you're more into display and/or lots of cool accessories, then get.

Thanks again for all the advice. I had actually thought about getting him a while back, but I was a little put off by his unusual looking 'alt' mode.
From what you've said, he definitely sounds awesome and I'll definitely get a version. By the way, how does he compare to G1 Prime size wise? from some the pictures I've seen he looks right about the same?

I've just seen a direct photo comparison with G1 Prime and he actually looks quite a bit smaller than I imagined him to be. He's almost the same size as Action Master Prime. I can see why people said his transformation was a bit fiddly.

If you keep him in robot mode he's epic, the truck mode is a bit underwhelming. I have mine displayed with my G1 minibots and combiners, the scale is spot on.

I bought him a couple of years ago and he's still one of my favourites.
- Either the most, or second most poseable TF EVER! The spare hands really help.
- SO MANY accessories! Axe, accurate gun, articulated display stand, trailer with Rollar etc.
- unique transformation
He is better than Masterpiece as he's far more poseable, far cheaper, more accessories. Pics of his alt mode don't do justice, you can make him look way better than that, but not if you have sausage fingers!
All this and he fits in your pocket too! Just don't lose the Matrix. I think the price is high cos you're paying for Japanese micro engineering (
cos Caucasians are just too damn tall!). I'd prefer him if he was deluxe sized but you can't have everything.

Get him, he is awesome.
I've advised at least 5 people successfully to get him an neither of them where disappointed.
He can do everything (minus the hands) MP Prime can, plus lots more, and he looks badass.
As for the size he's about Scout sized.

He sucks in truck cab mode but his Trailer is chuck full of functionalities. MP trailer pales in comparison. Robot mode, awesomeness, if they made him as tall as G1 Encore, he'd be the ultimate Optimus hands down, putting MP to shame.

He also has a bunch of diecast, which is cool.
I was one of the people who has been convinced to get him. Do it, he's awesome!

I disagree, with fiddling you can get his cab looking quite good. The cab pic in Deadmetal's link isn't very good.
My opinion of his hands is that they're better than MP's hands, even though they're not articulated. They can both have fists but only THS has hands that can point.
Actually I do have one complaint about him - when you use the energon axe there's no storage for his hand. There's storage for his six spare but not storage for a seventh. You can put it in the cab of the thing with the claw but it doesn't fully shut so it's not totally secure. Not a bid problem really.

I'm hoping they would expand on this and make more Hybrid updates, like Ultra Magnus.

@ Mykltron.
Let's admit it, due to his micronization........the top part of the cab is way out of proportion to the lower part making it stick out. THS-02 is meant to be posed, cool looking ones at that.
And Deadmetal's link is indeed accurate at 10/10.
On a somewhat unrelated topic, I wonder why no K.O. company has ever tried to "enlarge" him (ehem calling iGear)

Trying to make a bigger KO out of this Prime toy doesn't mean they'll be able to fix that cab.
iGear already has their KO Masterpiece. It would be redundant for them to upsize Hybrid Convoy.

Who cares about the cab? It's the bot-mode and the extras that make this guy damn awesome.
Man I wish a KO or "custom" company would up-size him to Voyager, he would be my "Classics" Prime and replace the real Classics Prime in the Classics display.

I second that DM. I'm interested in his bot mode. But given that the iGear K.O doesn't have any die-cast, what more would THS? Die-cast gives the figure the oomph and some durability in the frame work.

Well, that could be cool but we need some Decepticons.

With 4-wheel steering even!
I think the only thing I don't like about Hybrid Convoy is that there's no storage for the jetpack INSIDE the trailer. I want to be able to display him classic G1-style with all the accessories in place. Sure, it fits inside, I just wish there was an actual spot for it.

You may already know this, but it stores on the front of the trailer as an homage to the soundpack that came with G2 Prime. The two extra guns that come with the black version attach to it.
