Value of G1 toys after the movie

I've been getting into transformers again and am really impressed with some of the stuff thats out there now. However, as cool as some of the shiny new figures are I'd like to ad some G1 goodness to my collection. Recently browsing the internet and local stores I've found most of the G1 toys(even MISB locally). However, some of these figures are a little rich for my taste, at least to buy without consideration.

So my question is this; will the excitement caused by the movie cause the price of G1 toys to go up or should I wait a bit and see if the movie figures divert attention from the old toys?

Man no matter what comes along, whether it be a movie, new series, nothing will be able to divert attention away from G1. The longer one waits to buy G1 Toys, the more expensive they get.

If you try Ebay, you can get G1's for pretty cheap, but they aren't usually complete, and are probably in bad shape. All I gotta say is that G1 collectors are very devoted to their cause.

You can say that again. I'm still hunting for 4 more of the Throttlebots w/their Tech Specs. Those are what's cheap. Minibots & Thottlebots. Or any small G1 figure. If you're lookng for MISB or AFA Graded figures, be prepared to dig into yur wallet. I spent $310 on a MIB (Note, I said MIB, not MISB) Trypticon. If it was a pristine box w/no tears or anythin, you can garunteed I would've paid a lot more. I still can't find a complete Fort Max in his box. Even for over $800, I can't find one. Re-obtaining G1's for the people who sold them & now feel stupid tend to be pricey. In 20 years the values of Fort Max has increased considerably. Same for Scorponok & any of the other City formers or Base formers like Star Convoy, Sky Garry, or Grandus, who of those last three tend to be very hard to track down w/a box or being complete, or for a decent price since they are Japanese G1'. If you hold off on getting your G1's now, they're just gonna keep getting more expensive.

Although the price of the G1 figures have been rising steadily over the years, with the release of the movie which caused a renewed interest in Transformers figures. I have noticed it's harder to get a good deal on G1 figures on Ebay, maybe because a lot more people are bidding to reclaim their collections like I started a year and a half ago. In that short time I have over 1600 figures in my collection and that's a conservative count. Some good deals I've gotten were G1 Fort Max complete w/box $750, G1 Scorponok complete w/box <$100, G1 Metroplex complete w/box $56, G1 Ultra Magnus complete w/box $40.

I also think some people are taking this chance of the raised publicity to sell off their collections and make some money, so you see a lot more listing on Ebay. So it's no better time to get the vintage figures you're looking for.

It will only get worse if the movie is a comercial success but if it is a flop then g1 prices on ebay might take a little bit of dip. Although from what I have seen when I went to pirates of carabian last friday it doesn't like it will flop.
