I was wondering this as I updated my counts. Do items such as the RadioShack RC Starscream and ZipZaps count as figures? I think they do. Any thoughts?

Now I don't think they count as figures.
They are RC cars and a plain.

What Dead Metal said, but with exceptions...
Giftcard Prime counts, and the transforming RCs, if and when I get them, will also count, by virtue of actually being figures.

I wouldn't even count Real Gear, so no.

Whoah, hold on a minute. Real Gear are proper transformers, so they should count in your collection (arguably not in your MOVIE collection, though)

And that's on topic because...

Hm, dificult to say. As far as actual Transformers merchandise and completists are concerned, I'm sure that yes, they are actually figures.
I, however, am trying to form a colletion of to-size transformers. As in, I'm not going to have a boombox the size of a pickup truck among my display. So, Real Gear and the RCs are probably not going to find their ways into my hot little hands, but I have a feeling that they're going to go almost as fast as everything else has.

I would say the zipzaps count as TF merch, but not as TF toys...
I think about my TF collection count in two ways... actual transforming TF character toys... (my main collection) and merchandise, which is still really cool, but does not count as a Transformer toy (this includes ROBOT HEROES, 3 inch TITANIUMS, STATUES, PVC's, etc.).

It agree, i only count funtional transformers when i am counting how large my collection is (minicon teams count as 1 whole person, kitbash fodder doesnt count)-so i guess the roleplay tech counts as it transformers, but the other stuff, models (unleashed? dunno), tshirts, tatttos, candy-dont count when u are counting figures

Nah. There is plenty of transformable merchandise that I wouldn't count towards my totals in any way.
We have some leniency to count things like Real Gear as Transformers proper because of Soundwave, Blaster, and Reflector. All of those guys were involved with some kind of media and were from Microman anyway. They're more of an exception than they are the rule.
Real Gear comes about as close as it could to being counted for me, but still ends up falling more into the 'Role Play'/children’s toy department than it does as a standard Transformer.
I mean, I'm drawing a hard line in the sand here and its not that I don't like the Real Gear toys, but they're certainly more 'toys' to me than they are proper Transformers.
(For the record, I don't own Armada Laserbeak either.)

If it doesn't transform, it doesn't count.

Everyone counts Action Masters. Crap, some of them cost over $100 bucks.

Action Masters have vehicles or accessories that transform. That's why.
