Clone armies

I was thinking about clone armies. What molds would be best, make the most sense and be easiest to collect to create a small army of clones.

I was considering the Energon omnicons (-arcee). they make sense as a clone army and thanks to the 07 movie line they each have 3 or 4 repaints. Also, i like the molds and already have one of each. The only thing is to me it makes more sense to make an evil :CON: hoard rather than the non-warrior omnicons.

other clone armies that have occurred to me are:
the insecticons
the sharcticons
omega supreme
the seekers
the sweeps
energon predacons
tankor drones
cybertron scrapmetal
- I'm sure there are more that's just of the top of my head.

Then, I was also thinking it would be just as fun to pick a random character and pretend they somehow cloned say by the quintesons, unicron, or whoever. In which case it might be smart to pick a toy that is readily found on ebay. I was thinking topspin & twintwist are usually easy to find and cheap. Also it would be easy to repaint them into evil clones. I was also considering Hun-gurr, just cuz he's a favorite of mine.

If anyone has any thoughts, stories, or pictures of clones/drone armies, please share.

Yes totally, I'm not very familiar with Beast wars stuff yet. Its next on my list to of shows to watch. I heard Tankor had drones but I didn't realize there where others. cool.

I always liked the idea of a Dinobot army using both G1 and G2 variants.

I have a small force of Dead Ends attached to one side of Energon Unicron's ring.

I think out of all the choices, the Seekers are probably the best bet for a clone army. What with all the KOs filling out the ranks nicely.

G1 cartoon used Insecticon clones a couple times. I think the episode reference in my signature is an example of that actually.

I always thought Armada Demolisher and Energon Starscream would make good drone armies. In the Botcon comic, Leozack, Skyquake, Hooligan and Hellbat were part of Banzai-tron's experimental air warriors which I think led on to the Seekers.

Firecons would make cool drones.

Headmasters had the Seacons.

The old G1 boxart had multiples of Dinobots and even Megatron.

Other suggestions:

Smokesniper
Gigant Bomb
Wingstun
Air Hunter
Battlechargers
G2 Stormtroopers
Laserrods

I'm fairly certain that I'm going to go with the jumpstarters as my first clone army. Especially after realizing there are several different colorways for each (Salt-Man Z, robot man Z, Salt-Man X, robot man X, Diaclone - Baku-ten Attack Robo); they are sort of expensive but worth it, I think. Also, the hasbro 1984 blue&white versions are so inexpensive on e-bay. They fit in, size wise, well with the energon omnicons & predicons, and the other idea I had of several pairs of pounce and wingspan.
Now, I just need some paint, some repro-labels and order me up some clones. :CON:

a color based army might be interesting.
Like, a black and purple decepticon army. Using skywarps and insecticons and any other black/purple guys.

I've been working on an Insecticon Clone army for a while now.

G1 (Tak Re-issue) Bombshell, KickBack, & Shrapnel (opened)

eHobby Clones (MISB)

G1 Deluxe Insecticons, hard to find complete and in good shape, I still need two more. (loose)

Beetra (deluxe Insects are from these moulds). I still need one more, I don't know if they actually ever made "Morpheopus"(whoever the Locust is) into a toy, or just a prototype.

Convertors Insecticons (three moulds are from Beetras) the other two are original. I finally have all of them MOSC.

Four Star: Bombshell as a Scorpion (MOSC), Kickback as a Praying Mantis (MOSC)

KO Bombshell in Four Star colours, from a company in Argentina (MOSC)

Korean Kickback Blue & White boxed

As many cheap "Big Lots" insect robots as I could find.

And...a few other insect robots, that I've pict up on the way.

I was going to get the KO insecticons from KOToys, but after researching, I found out they they are all in a larger scale, so I figured that I didn't need them.

Awesome! I'd love to see a picture of that army. I would love to find at least one of each of those deluxe insecticons.

I've been collecting those Big Lots Bugs for a while too, but usually just one of each. I was originally thinking of them as Shokaract's minions in his alternate future, but now that I'm getting into Convertors, I'm thinking of them as relatives of the Insectors, or possibly other disparate alien arthropods, like the Invid/Inbit, and Buddy L's Bug Bots.

Not to reopen any old debates, but I have to preface my main troopbuilding fixation by saying I despise Beast Machines so much that I don't even have singles of half the figures; I usually only buy one to have them represent some other character, like using Snarl for Leonicus. The line's one redeeming feature IMHO was the Vehicons losing any vestigial cockpits for slight facial features in vehicle mode, which makes about half of them perfect fodder for customizing into minions of the G2 Cybertronian Empire. They were perhaps the largest faction in any TF fiction, making it ironic that they've never had a single toy; yes, that orange Jetstorm as "Jhiaxus" was a very nice gesture, but it physically counts more as another Sunstorm. However, that deluxe mold's resemblance to Cyclonus makes him especially well-suited for a repaint, since Manny Galan routinely drew most of Jhiaxus' air force as white and green Cycloni.

So far though, only my first kitbash used deluxe Jetstorm. Most of the ones I've actually finished were Big Lots KOs from a few years back, which are sadly no longer available for further cloning. I've made two gestalt teams from Machine Robo KO's: one with Screw Head's construction team, and another with the enlarged and remolded Fitor team that attaches to a blue central booster. The G2 comics also depicted several of them as being able to combine in pairs into Thunderjets, so those giant versions of the Star and Energon Saber Minicons turned out to be perfect.

Bayniverse Cybertronian mode Cons also have the right appearance, so I fabric-dyed a pair of FAB ROTF Megatron tanks into my first true ground forces. Half my attempts at dying toys have resulted in destroying them though: hard plastic can warp, and the rubbery kind on the one BM Jetstorm I dyed actually seemed to shrink, so make sure you only do that with cheap, replaceable figs. Dye doesn't chip like paint though, so for cloning a huge army it can pay off in the end. I'll have to post pics of this soon, either here or a more custom-oriented thread.

Getting back to Big Lots KOs, the one set that aroused a cease and destroy order from Hasbro, the deluxe-sized Legends of Cybertron molds, included perhaps the greatest clone fig of all time: War Within Starscream in perfect scale with the WW Titanium toys. Glad I got 6 while the gettin' was good.
