That has nothing to do with it. Last year's BotCon set had Breakdown from Sunstreaker/Sideswipe, while at the same time Generations Red Alert was going to be released, and TCC had Punch/Counterpunch from the same mold too.

I personally had higher hopes for this year's Botcon set. I think that a retooled Ultra Magnus would have been way better for Motormaster. He has the bulk and build the the G1 figure had over the others, and the price point would be closer to what we usually get from the boxed sets. We've (usually) been getting a Voyager, an Ultra, and three Deluxes with a price point around $75-$80. Now we're getting 4 Deluxes and a Voyager worth around $60, and I don't see them offering these sets any cheaper than usual.

I like Breakdown, but thats mostly due to the mold. Otherwise, I'm extremely underwhelmed.

Probably has everything to do with it. Yellow Drag Strip and Yellow Cheetor, both from the same mold, would be too similar. If one is too similar to the other, then a lot of people would pass on one of them.

The actual figure is much better in my opinion than the Wreck-Gar mockup. BotCon did well.

Too bad they don't combine.
I wish I could get a set of these.

If only they combined....

PCC stunticons don't f***ing cut it ><;

Lack luster Devastator (classic) and ultra seksi Bruticus (rotf + fp) need another buddy, not a 1/2 axed scout repaint with some mini-cons stuck to him like lint..

Seriously if you can make (insert your favorite car/truck classic+ figure) then you can make Menasor...

-> If you can make Tracks... then you can make Menasor... (and defensor plz)

What was a beautiful discourse between Ryan and Derrick Wyatt on Twitter has now dissolved into the beginnings of an ugly flame war. I like both versions and I see the validity in each argument

It makes him a black and purple firetruck. Taking the forklifts off Wreck-Gar would've turned him into a semi-truck with a trailer.

First, let me start by agreeing with you that Wreck-gar would probably have looked better. However, I have to disagree with you on Blurrz's optinion. If you are saying that Motormaster as the "firetruck" OP from animated looks less like a semi than Wreck-gar, I have to greatly disagree with you. The OP mold looks like a cab-over semi tractor. Wreck-gar looks like a cab-over straight truck, not a semi. Small difference, but I think Blurrz had a better point on the looks of the alt modes.

Personally I think Bulkhead could have been a viable option too.

I would've liked to have seen this option explored as well over another black Optimus Prime repaint/remold. Just not that exciting in my opinion.

You said it. How many dark Optimuses can we have? Scourge/Nemesis Prime/Shattered Glass Prime/Motormaster. I realize that immitation is the the greatest form of flattery, but really...

That's nothing. Most of those people don't like Seibertron.com to begin with. BotCon has the right to do whatever they want. The fan boys dissing the site, they're just butthurt that people don't have the same opinion as them.

It's also lovely to see that they take advantage of the social medium of Twitter to issue their disses using sneaky @mentions, yet don't have the balls to say it to Seibertron.com's face.

I'm largely underwhelmed by this set, especially Motormaster. The new head looks OVERLY childish and cartoony, even for Animated. Besides, it's yet another black Prime, blah, boring, give me something original and creative, FunPub.

Speaking of original and creative, I'm kinda liking Dragquee---erm Dragstrip.

I gotta say that front page What Could Have Been image is in very poor taste and rather disrespectful to everyone involved in the BotCon set. Not liking what they do is one thing, but directly bashing it on the front page is another thing. I'm disappointed. :(

I really like BotCon 2011 Motormaster. :)

I wish they would of used Wreck-Gar for a number of reasons, blocky head with curved face (though they would have to edit the smile), truck with a trailer that doesn't have a windshield for a chest... But the number one reason they should of used Wreck-Gar is because of his physical form. Wreck-Gar's mold as Motormaster would look blocky, thuggish, and looks like a Decepticon combiner. Prime's mold is just too dynamic looking for a thug like Motormaster :/
But I do like him for 1 reason, and that is because of that SEXY purple and black color scheme on a Prime mold. :CON:

I'm sorry you feel that way, Randy. Just like with the BotCon exclusives, I can't please all of the people here on Seibertron.com all of the time. Gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. I hope you will continue to visit Seibertron.com. We don't do too many editorials on our front page but it happens about once or twice a year when I feel it is necessary.

I gotta say that for a while even I, in my anti-Animated collecting style, was tempted to keep the set just to have the Stunticons as a group on the shelf, but this and the last few completely made up my mind. I will not have these on my shelf. I'll sell them at cost to a buddy of mine who cannot make it to Botcon this year but wants the set.

Just means I can spend more in the dealer room ;)

Personally I loved the '08 set and the '07, '09 and '10 sets addded a great deal of personality and distinction to my shelves. It's a shame that {most of) the '11 set will find it's way out of my house.

Oh well, thems the breaks. Here's looking forward to 2012!

I like it. I would've liked Motormaster as a Wreck-Gar repaint BETTER, but I still like it. I really have a thing for the TFA toys. it's my very first chance to own an entire toy series and then pass it to my kids. They play with them under supervision but I keep the boxes and accessories safe in storage.

I completely agree. They could have just NOT given us a retooled head, besides Motormaster has always had the same alt-mode as Optimus, so this makes sense. It's being a total baby to have "What could have been" on the front page of one of the most visited Transformers site and it's insulting to the people behind BotCon who are allowing us to have such a great set. We know that we are an Unpleasable Fanbase but this is really just driving the point to the mazimum and making it seem like there's no point in anybody doing anything to make the Fanbase happy because we will always try and find a flaw about it and whine. Be happy, please, otherwise its making it seem like were not a Fanbase worth trying to make happy.

Besides, it's not REALLY "what could have been" because that was clearly never their intention. Almanac showed Motormaster with Optimus' mold how long ago?

So basically what you're saying is that the site owner isn't allowed to express his opinion and that the rest of us should shut up and accept what we're given and not once dare speak out against anything the companies behind Transformers do?

Sorry, Starscream GaGa, I kept quiet for the past 3 BotCons despite being sorely disappointed (especially with the 2009 set and the incorrectly named G2 set last year). I know that the BotCon folks are more talented and creative than giving us yet another black Optimus Prime of which we've already had a black TFA Optimus Prime from Japan and I have enough black Optimus Primes. I certainly didn't need one with an out-of-place block shaped head. I don't have a problem with the head, I have a problem with that head on Optimus Prime's body.

I agree that we are an unpleasable fanbase -- but that doesn't mean that those who think there is room for improvement should sit quietly in the background and not speak their mind. And for any of you who think that I shouldn't use Seibertron.com to speak my mind once a year or so, you must not have been around that long because I have a long tradition dating back to the beginning of this site of speaking my mind when I feel it's appropriate. It's happened only a few times, to be honest, but I have no qualms with speaking up when needed. And it's not like the big real world news companies don't do the same thing with sensationalizing news.

My well known little Transformers 101 stint more-or-less started the internet shitstorm that followed which lead to the movie folks changing Megatron's face thankfully.

Seibertron.com isn't NPR. I can use it once in a great while to let people know when there's a large group of us disappointed in something. And I'm a passionate enough fan that I'm not ashamed to let my voice be heard once in a great while when needed.
