NO NECK!? Are we back in the 80s?

[rant]I opened deluxe Ratchet yesterday and was appalled to discover he can't turn his head due to the kibble around it. What's even more strange is that he has a ball joint in there! Ten minutes of quality time with a hacksaw later and he's a decent figure but really, what's going on? Two Megatrons, Rampage, Ratchet, Dead End and, according to Prime Reviews, Perceptor all with no real neck and one without elbows.[/rant]

No, we aren't back, since back then there were other colors than grey. Now grey on the movie figures are heavily overused to the point where the figures are boring as hell.

As for necks: I noticed that after the awesome neck-mechanism of Drift, Thunderwings head can only turn, and can't move up or down. Talk about devolution.

And the 80's didn't have this many repaints or re-releases of the same character. Back then it was more quality for your money, today...... They just want your money.

Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Dirge, Thrust, Ramjet, Rumble, Frenzy, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen, Ironhide, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Red Alert, Trailbreaker, Hoist, Inferno, Grapple, Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Eject, Rewind, Brawn, Outback, Jipe, Gears, Swerve, Huffer, Pipes, Windcharger, Tailgate, Runabout, Runamuck, and the Targetmaster versions of Hot Rod, Blurr, Kup, Cyclonus and Scourge would all like to have a word with you.

And don't get me started on Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Bumper, Bumblejumper, Volks, Carerra, Sedan, Hubcap or any other variation on that mess.

Really?

Starscream. Thundercracker. Skywarp.
Prowl. Bluestreak. Smokescreen.
Huffer. Pipes.
Brawn. Outback.
Buzzsaw. Laserbeak.
Rumble. Frenzy.
Gears. Swerve.
Ironhide. Ratchet.
Windcharger. Tailgate.
Optimus Prime. Ultra Magnus.

Alternatively:

Optimus Prime. Action Master Prime. Powermaster Prime.
Bumblebee. Goldbug. Pretender Bumblebee.

Didn't have this many repaints or re-releases of the same character? Maybe not, but they had more than almost any other generation until recently.

Plus, back then the same toys were on the shelves for a year or more (*shutup Mudflap!*). We didn't get new stuff every month. You can still limit yourself to buying the same amount of toys, you just now get more continuously appearing options to choose from.

Optimus Prime. Ultra Magnus.

Magnus has an entirely unique trailer and combined mode. How many repaints can boast that?

Though, I agree, repaints have been a staple in transformers since the beginning, way it is.

EVERY MONTH?! Not in this country. Anyway, this isn't supposed to be a repaint rant thread! It's a stupid design rant thread! Focus, people! :D

Oh I'm completely on the same page with you there, but .... I get the seekers. But at least they were in the cartoons also as the same vehicle form.

And Ultra Magnus was only the base, the trailer set him apart.

I was just saying they shove so many repaints out at us..... crazy.

Blackout = 4 repaints I know there are more helo molds available.
knockout = 4 repaints. What happened? landed in the same motorcycle dealership?
bb = i've lost count
OP = still counting

This is kinda how I felt about WFC Soundwave, after already having WFC Prime and Bee. Both of them had ball joint heads and poor Soundwave got screwed with no neck and just side to side swivel.

Even my scout class Breacher I just bought has a ball jointed head. :-?

Sad that even Legends Soundwave has a ball jointed head.

I mentioned this in the Warpath prototype thread. Ball jointed heads and swivel feet. Feet that can remain flat on the ground in action poses should be a prerequisite these days. Both are Absolute musts.
IMO.

EDIT: oh yeah!! Grey plastic sucks ass too. Fackin HATE IT. Is it hard to just throw a little colour into the batch of plastic when it's brewing?
