Too too many lines...

Now, I've grown up with the cartoons, comic books, had a couple transformers when I was a kid, and now I'm having a baby and looking forward to sharing my youth. My wife and I stepped into Babies R Us, and after saving a few bucks, I was allowed (heehee) to buy myself a toy. I stepped up to the transformer aisle, and was bombarded with so many different packages, colors, graphics, you name it. I just gotta ask, why the hell are there so many lines of this toy? I understand the animated and movie lines, but you get into combiners (which I thought would be like Constructicons), generations, classics, blah blah blah... I like the old idea of keep it simple stupid and now I read that there's a "reveal the sheild" WTF??

I see how that could be a serious problem to not well informed buyers, back then all Transformers were on the same quality level, with more or less the same style, but nowadays Hasbro needs to put out more sublines - Movieverse is now simply Transformers; Reveal the Shield is the same as Classics/Universe/Generations, just with an added gimmick (badly cut rubsigns) - the constant name changes I don't like either.

It is what it is. They do whatever it takes to keep the retailers buying the products, and if that means changing it up every year, then so be it.

As long as they keep the G1 upgrades coming, I don't care what they call the subline.

The only good thing to come from the plethora of lines made available in recent months is no one uses the term "CHUG" anymore. Christ, that was annoying.

Well, they change things up to keep it fresh and new. That's all there is to it.

Enjoy it while it last. At some point after DOTM interest will die down and so will the amount of product on the shelves. Right now we're riding the high tide of TF popularity.

The way I look at it is this...
Different continuities appeal to different people and thus Transformers has quite a diverse fan base. However, with that said the overall 'Transformers brand' is continually enhanced, relevant and more importantly marketable giving it universal appeal to.
In theory with all the variety available, there should be a Transformers line for everyone. In the same way that a car manufacturer for example, may produce different cars, with different options, in different colours to suit different budgets.
I to get confused

, however these days is just buy what I like, when I like, regardless of the continuity it comes from.

Oh man, this is true and I never thought of it. The only reason I got bavk into collecting these figures was because of the excitement of the first movie. After the third of final movie fades away and product slows down, what will I do? Oh man, I'm freakin out all of the sudden.....

You're dreaming if you think Transformers is gonna end anytime soon...just more cynical fanboy talk.

No one said it would go away it will just subside to pre-movie levels at some point.
