Disapointment with Masterpiece Rodimus Convoy

Ok, MP Rodimus was delivered today and so far I am not too impressed. He looks fantastic and I actually like the shell for Rodimus Prime vehicle mode. Unfortunately, he transforms terribly, I can't get him to lay flat in both vehicle modes, the feet are far too stiff to the point of me worrying that I will break him, the abdomen connects into the top of the windscreen in robot mode but it doesn't hold in very well, the back is supposed to rest on two pegs but that itself is held on only by friction, the hands don't store well in vehicle mode and to top it all off the paint is chipping on the right knee. I have only handled it for about 2 hours and this is my assessment. On top of all that, the plastic quality of the accessories is terrible (gun, saw blade and welder). I have handled KO's with better plastic. What a poor example from TakaraTomy.

Hopefully the paint issues is isolated to yours. Do you mind me asking where you received yours from? If you have problems with yours and you received it from an online retailer, you should contact them to see if you can exchange yours for a different one.

Paint issues have been one of the consistant complaints I've heard since release. It's something about this slightly powdery paint they are using that isn't binding to the plastic (think Generations Blur).

I ordered it from Robot Kingdom, I am still waiting to hear back from them about issues I have with the the PE Ejector (missing the hinges on the back of the arms) I got on Friday. I may contact them but god knows when I will hear back from them. The paint issues are not just confined to the knee, after watching a review online I have noticed another area with paint rub, the spoiler. It fits far too tightly when you attach the trailer and I have slight rubbing there. Yes, the paint in that area is fairly powdery.

If you have trouble hearing from them within a couple of weeks and you've tried contacting them a few times, please let me know so that I can bring it to their attention (since their one of the site sponsors here on Seibertron.com)

Just for the record, I have zero influence and it is 100% not my responsibility what the sponsors of this site do with their business. Please make sure you try to contact them several times. If you haven't heard from them in a couple of days, I'd try again. And then again a couple of days later. If you haven't heard from them in a few weeks, please let me know so that I can try to contact them for you.

I'm glad I'm passing this up for the Hasbro version now. He'll be my very first MP.

Please don't take this the wrong way, because I mean no offense, none at all, I swear.
But you shouldn't offer help like that, because it can get you caught up in a bad situation and you already have enough on your plate, and it could get ugly, quick.

I think it's great that you're willing to offer help, considering RK is an advertiser here, and you want to be reputable in a situation like this, but I think it would be better just to sit back and allow this one to play out on it's own.

Let Robot Kingdom screw up and kick 'em off the ads if it comes to that in the future, but for now, I'd just let it go as it may.

Any idea when Hasbro might think of releasing him - summer/autumn/winter?

Even though you don't have an influence it's good you're offering to help. Thanks for your support Ryan.

I'm very disappointed to read about problems with this. I'm also surprised people have got them so soon! dammit where's mine?

Mine has a few issues :( Paint scratches in several areas right out of the box, but the biggest issue is that the front and back halves of his chest, where the shouldre joints are held in, are coming apart. The glue hasn't held, and the plastic has little stretched ropy bits joining it, like when i'm gluing together a model, then pull it apart when it's only half-set. There's also the cloudy white residue on his head and shoulders near those seams, like you get from supa glue.

How excited I was for this figure, and I thought all these issues were people just being fickle, but I also have suffered...

First of all RK sent me the wrong order too. I ordered two MP-09's, but was only sent one! This may be a good thing though if I can get a refund. My figure suffers from some series QC issues. One of the panels of the car is melted! :( Its even more warped on the inside.

See the picture, this was straight out of the box. I am going to enquire about a replacement. It looks stupid in Alt mode, means I can't tab in in robot mode, and in trailer mode doesn't plug the shell in correctly.

So shattered...

Yeesh, all this is ver disappointing. Hot Rod is one of my favorite TFs.

Are these issues worse than the issues with Megatron? I have that one, transformed him several times, and he never broke or was ruined on any way.

I'll wait for the Hasbro one as it sounds like more than half of the problems are with the trailer or caused by the trailer.

That's a shame that such an awesome looking figure is turning out to be so disappointing. Takara Tomy are usually very reliable so I'm surprised to hear about these issues but with such an intricately designed toy these kind of things can often happen.

SHEESH! what the hell Takara!?

for $200 this is ridiculous. Its almost like they crapped this guy out as fast as they could and the QC took a nosedive as a result. All any of us can do now is hope ours isn't affected.

The two main issues I've heard thus far are the leg panels coming broken in the box or breaking during transformation and the clearance issues when merging the car with the trailer. Of the people I know only ONE didn't have any issues but he was treating the figure like it was made of air. I hope everyone realizes that Hasbro isn't going to fix these issues if they release the figure. The problem with the leg panels is a design flaw and fixing it would require having a designer come in and figure out how to get the same effect but in a different manner and that costs $$$. All Hasbro will do is dull any sharp points, change the paint, and make sure it passes US safety standards. If they're not springing for the trailer they aren't going to spring for a redesign.

On a different note anyone get any of the bonus items with their Roddy like the bag or case?

Hmmm, it's looking like he is going to tower annoyingly over MP Starscream & Grimlock even in Hot Rod mode, which means the only logical choice to display him with are going to be MP Prime & maybe BT/Alternators, without mentioning all the QC problems you guys are running into.

Verdict: wait awhile and be happy with FansProject's Protector.

Maybe we'll luck up and have iGear KO a 90% version someday. *ducks*

He does look pretty fabulous with the full-sized MP Convoy in both modes.

Every time I read about another person having issues with the figure Protector looks better and better.

They're not really the same thing, though I've developed quite a weakness for the Classics Prime aesthetic that FansProject has absorped and made their own with City Commander/Protector/Defender. My initial thought is that I would want both, but I'm unconvinced by what I've seen and heard about MP Roddy thus far.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen more side-by-side shots with MP figures other than Convoy yet, though I suppose it hasn't been out THAT long.

Edit: Found some on another site that shall remain nameless. Roddy towers over Grimlock. Meh.

Yeah, bringing shame to my namesake, I am also getting the Hasbro version. Hot Rod only, right? That's all I need. However, my GF absolutely loves Rodimus, so I'll buy her the Takara version. But she'll keep it in Winnebago mode most likely, as mine will be in robot mode.

BTW, how is it packaged? Robot + trailer, or vehicle?
