Should I Get Battle in Space + Galvatron or Challenge at Cybertron?

Well, I need a classic Rodimus (and every classics/universe figure ever made worth buying) and I'm in no mood to pay $90 for an original classics Rodimus. I'm also in need of a classics Galvatron and his minions Cyclonus and Scourge. Scourge is already checked off, but I was wondering if you guys think I should just buy the current Battle in Space set with Rod and Cyclonus for $20, then get Galvatron for a minimum of $26 by himself, or should I get the Challenge at Cybertron set that comes with all three, except for Gavatron having changed colors, for $41 at YaHobby. The Matrix and the comic included in the current set are a bonus, but I don't know what the Matrix would really be useful for.

P.S. Since I only have the Magnus/Skywarp set out of all the figures in the Classics and Universe lines, and since I'm really into G1 now after starting to watch the show (I'm younger, you must understand), should I dump all the extra money on the classic characters or should I just stick with what's current and hope to see reissues or new versions of characters?

definitely get the 2 pack and then a separate galvatron. Then you get the matrix and the comic as well as a less crappy galvatron. Every Galv' Ive seen from the 3 pack is total crap.

I bought the 2 pack for Hot Rod but ended up really loving Cyclonus. Great bot mode. Super joints for poses.

well the cyclonus is in both but he really is the highlight. the only issue with the 2-pack is the rub sign gimmick
but reprolabels fixes that.

I bought the Galvatron loose for $12 and picked up the Battle in Space from BBTS when Protector came out so I got the whole thing for less than the Takara set would've cost!

Yes, although the joint that the cockpit turns over on is way too tight and it's very difficult to put it all the way down into place in robot mode, and just as difficult to pull it back out...but for some reason the hip joints are way too loose so he's very hard to pose with his floppy legs.
But what really irks me is that I lost one of his missiles. I may have to resort to a Henkei KO.

Thanks! I'll take your advice.

Skip them both and get his Masterpiece figure which I'm sure will be here by the end of the year at the latest. :CON:

Henkei's are KOs? Huh. I thought they were official Takara's.

Henkei's are all official Takara Tomy but like all successful toylines there is a big market for KOs.

Optimagnus is considering buying one of the KO Henkei figures.

Henkei exclusive Skywarp and Thundercracker were very popular when they came out and still are so loads of KOs of the official Henkei versions were made and sold on Ebay to desperate collectors who wanted to get the set for as cheap as possible or missed out on it elsewhere and couldn't wait for possible future releases that were unconfirmed at that time.

The same missile problem happened to my Thundercracker but I refuse to buy KOs so he's just going to have to make do with one....

Sorry if that last post sounded in any way patronizing - that wasn't what I was going for, just wanted to clear that up for you.

What is wrong with the rub gimmick?

Well, a KO of a Henkei. Henkeis themselves are legitimate, but there's a big KO market for them. Just go to kotoys.com.
I may even have to resort to a KO Starscream if that mold of him isn't released again. #-o

Oddly, I like the rubsign gimmick.

Oh. I agree. I thought you meant that there was something wrong with the stickers or something. As in, they didn't rub or they fall off.

As a kid I liked to play with them I guess. There's a certain age (I'm not sure what it is) when you start to get smart and over-think things. When G1 was out, I wasn't at that age. I simply accepted the toys for what they were and enjoyed them. I remember playing with the rub signs trying to make them turn blue. Today my kids who are about the same age as I was back then also like to play with the rub stickers.

Today, being 32, I don't necessarily care for the stickers so much. I accept though, that the CHUG/RTS molds are throwbacks to the original toys as much as the original cartoon characters. For better or worse, the rub stickers is very much a part of TF lore. But yes, reprolabels is very much a friend when it comes to matters like these.

As far as the OT is concerned, I picked up the battle in space pack myself. It is very well worth it depending on your wants. The previously mentioned rub stickers could be a consideration since the two pack comes from the RTS line. Also the colors on Hot Rod are different than the previous molds I believe. If you are interested in buy the third party protector armor (or whatever its name is, someone can help me out here), Hot Rod's colors in the newer 2 pack will not look good with the armor.

As someone else previously mentioned, Cyclonus is the ultimate winner in the box. His is a superstar mold. His value went up tremendously when I got him out of the box and started to "play" with him. Plus, being packed with his target master. Big win for the purple one.

When I was a kid, I did not like the rubsigns because they were not reflected in any of the artwork: not the box art, the cartoon, or anything else I recall seeing. Thus, in my mind, they detracted from the toy's accurate reflection of this idealized model (that was itself based on the toy, but that wasn't the point, damnit).

Yeah, I was kinda messed up. Still am.

Already been to KOtoys.com. I've seen the Henkei KOs, but the first time I saw them I thought they were the real thing.

Well guys, I was at Target yesterday and didn't find crap, except for Gen. Red Alert but I left him so I could grab some cash. Went back today to find Alert gone, but (*gasp*) they restocked the Battle in Space!
I got it, needless to say. And I'm glad I did, too. It's a great set.
Now I just have a Galvatron dilemma...

He's actually pretty easy to find on eBay. I was going to get him, but then decided on Astrotrain instead.
