Why 2011 is not the year of MP09

Anybody else in TF Land had these issues with MP09?

Panels not lining up properly:
After trying to transform him for what seemed like the 88th time, i still couldn't get his black leg panels to click into place when they are folded up. Then one of the panels decided to pop off... I wasn't at all shocked considering it was loose straight out of the box.

His tiny, tiny hands:
Why can't he hold at least one of his laser rifles properly? He worships Optimus, you think he would look at MP01 and learn how to hold something as simple as a rifle. They just fall right out... And no, glue is not an option. Which leads me to my next point:

His rifles won't connect properly:
That one's pretty self explanatory, boys and girls...

I think I'll just keep the other one in his box.

Firstly, this topic has been discussed extensively here.

Secondly, if you want to know how to fix the rifle issue look here.

Thirdly, contrary to popular belief he transforms perfectly into car mode. Three things that help greatly are:
1) you need to get the ankles at just the right angle to allow the arms to fit,
2) the plates that go on the front of his leg that clip to the underside of the car popping off is cause by the thigh rotation joint not being at the right angle. Rotate the lower legs towards the floor slightly to allow the tabs to reach the holes better,
3) ensure the lower legs are flush against the thighs which you can't do if the ankles are wrong.

my bad, i'll use the search function next time.

as for the fixes,no... i don't think i'll be hacking at a $200 toy. i shouldn't have to, should i?

as for the legs, the right one transforms perfectly, the issue was the loose panel stright out of the box, through no fault of mine. i've accepted that i've ended up with a dud, and no amount of d.i.y work will fix that.

like they say: you can't polish a turd.

No, you shouldn't. I wouldn't describe him as a turd though. I liked him just fine but now I've fixed him... :x

His impulsiveness killed Optimus... If that's not the act of a turd, i don't know what is :D

I love him to pieces. I'll mod him. Not out of necessity, but out of want.

You shouldn't HAVE TO, but as you dislike the figure so much you may as well, and then you might like him. The mods aren't difficult.

He's actually doing ok now. I've left him in Hot Rod's robot mode and i must say, the little maggot's growing on me... dud parts and all.

The chrome is starting to wear off on mine. That's how much I can't put him down. Looooooooooove it.

Plastic looks cheap.

I posted in another thread that I never cared for Rodimus And with all the troubles I'm reading about him quality wise, no way am i forking over $200 for this. This is one MP I'll just have to pass on.

Wait for clearance. There will be one. If you get a good one, and I admit that it can be tricky, he's actually worth the money, especially if you get him at clearance pricing.

He's not as bad as it sounds. Each figure is different. You might end up with a terrific figure.

Think of him as a fun customising project - like you MP Seeker. Did you try the leg mod yet?

I love complex transformations; but in MP09's case I think they made him unnecessarily complex. Combine that with some poor engineering features and you have a mixed-love Masterpiece.
