So, lately I've been collecting the Alternity line, and I was thinking that after that, I may start collecting the Masterpiece line, but there is one thing I don't quite understand. What is the difference between MP-01 and MP-04? Can anyone help me out?

Ahhhh! Okay. So, basically, just skip MP-01?

Pretty much...about the only reason to get it at this point is if you're a completist and want the box.
And if you can live without the trailer, your best bet would be to just get MP-01L which is a reissue of MP-01, but it also comes with an Autobot base stand. An original MP-01 would be pretty spendy about now...and comes with less than the other, cheaper options. At least I think MP-04 is still cheaper. Those are on their way back up in price, too, unfortunately.

Yeah, I saw that the MP-04s are running toward $300 now.
However, if you don't mind not being the first person to touch the figure (or if a lower price trumps an unopened figure), check on eBay or sites like BBTS for opened ones. I've got an opened MP-04 from BBTS sitting in my PoL that was listed as "dirty" and "may require cleaning", but it was like $20 cheaper than when they sold it at retail. I think spending half an hour or so cleaning a figure is worth it if I can get it a bit cheaper.

This is utterly true. I got my MP Convoy loose for 9000 yen (a little under $100) and my MP Megatron loose with a missing lightsaber and one broken clip for 3000 yen (around
$35!)

Trouble is... I am a completest. Eff. I've already had to make the decision to sell my Alternity Ultra Magnus comic because none of my other Alternity figures came with their comics.

Yeah, MP-04 comes with a trailer. I'm not a huge fan on it, but hay, it's your decision
