Why in the world did Hasbro name that autobot Trailcutter. He is Trailbreaker in every way and it is noticable. Can someone give me a reason as to WHY Hasbro named him Trailcutter?!

P.S It's this guy: http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... tter/2315/

They likely don't have the rights to the Trailbreaker name.

Same reason why Hot Rod is now Rodimus.

As Prime Riblet said, it all depends on what Hasbro can legally call the figure.

What the more important question is if this is a sign that Trailbreaker and Hoist will be in the next batch of Generations after the movie. They are so cloe to completing the Autobot cars collection and I want to see it done.

Similar to Shrapnel of the Insecticons, Hasbro changed it to Sharpshot. Lost the TM/Copyright

It's why we have Silverstreak but Autobot Jazz and Autobot Tracks has nothing to do with not having the rights. If that was the case then all they would have to do is call him Autobot Trailbreaker and all is good. They put Autobot on Jazz and Tracks because those are too common of words to copyright, Hasbro can't easily defend them.

Maybe it looked terrible on the packaging? Or maybe they didn't think he was important enough to give his G1 name witht he "Autobot" prefix? Or maybe they felt the name wasn't cool enough to try and retain?

It's been a long, long time since the names on the toy's packages meant anything to me. And this would go for the 3rd party stuff like "City Commander" or "Delicate Warrior". Once they're out of their packages you can forget they were called anything else.

Or maybe Jazz and Tracks are COPYRIGHT NAMES. Do you expect to look up "Jazz" in google images and see the TRANSFORMER there? No! You're going to see people playing JAZZ. Same reason why they made it "Autobot SIDESWIPE" and "Autobot BUMBLEBEE." These names are copyrighted by none other than the world famous DICTIONARY :D

*Facepalm*

Well duh. But that doesn't mean they're obliged to plop "Autobot" in front of every name just to make it "right".

For the final time it's trademark not copyright!

:HEADHURTS:

Rather than explain it in full minute detail, I'll be a bitch and refer you guys to this:

Trademarks on TFWiki.

As long as this leads to a Deluxe-class version of this guy, I'm all set with the name.

I don't even see why you care. Once it's in your collection you can call it whatever you want.

The could have called him Trailsmasher and the fandom would have rejoiced.

Also, read that article that JelZe GoldRabbit referred you to.

Now the important thing to do now is pray that we get deluxed versions of him and Hoist.

It's trademark reasons. They lost the rights to the name. Some cases it can be solved by adding a prefix but not others. Trailbreaker is one of them. Same with Hot Rod, and Bluestreak, and Motormaster, although the latter two have been reclaimed. I just wish the substitute name had been Trailhaul or Trailhauler.
