I just wanted to get some fan feedback on this one guys. I was considering purchasing the Masterpiece Rodimus, especially since the last word I got is we won't see him domesticated unitl 2012!!!! I have heard alot of quality issues have come up and I just wanted to get the word from the collector's mouth before dropping $200 on him for it to turn out to be a piece of plastic junk. Please respond and try and persuade me either way! Thanks for all the input fellow Seibertronians!!!!

Depends on what you value in a figure. How do you feel about the other Masterpiece figures, especially the more fragile ones like Megatron and the seekers? Rod's pretty much on par with those two and his leg/shin pieces could possibly be the most fragile parts on an MP figure to date.
As far as straight QC issues, I wouldn't be too concerned about that. Just order from a quality place like BBTS and you'll be covered if anything arrives in unacceptible condition.
And as I and others have stated in other threads about MP Rod, do note chances are you'll either have to sand down the trailer attachment slots or deal with paint sratching/rubbing off issues on the spoiler when converting to Winnebago mode. I've heard of a couple instances where people claim this hasn't affected theirs at all, most that say it does but is pretty minor, and some that say it did significant damage to the paint on the spoiler. Mine seemed like it would tend toward the latter when I lined the pieces up and barely started putting them together...and I'm not willing to sand down the slots so I'm just avoiding Roddebago mode until I get the Hasbro version.
But to answer your question, I'd say if you like the aforementioned MPs, you're likely to enjoy this one as well.

I wanted to get him so badly when I first saw his pic's, however the QC issues cannot be ignored. Remember your not just spending £10 on a scout, your spending a serious amount of money, and call me old fashioned, but at that kind of price, I'd expect it to be near perfect.

NOT to get. From the QC issue's I've seen, I'm pretty picky about quality, so I don't really think I'm going to be buying it. No Sir, I'll stick to Masterpiece Skywarp, thank you.

Mine's going back tomorrow. I just couldn't stand the problems on a $200+ dollar figure. I can accept some flaws and imperfections in a standard release figure but not on one that bares the Masterpiece name.
I hope he gets a Hasbro release but if so, the Hasbro engineers have their work cut out for them.

Agreed.
We may have to wait a while for Hasbro's release, but hopefully they'll be able to iron out the imperfections.

If you're going to get him, keep this in mind: he is a display piece. A beautiful, beautiful display piece, but a display piece nonetheless. If you're planning on transforming him once or twice and keeping him in an awesome pose on your shelf, I think he's totally worth it; the QC issues aren't a problem if he's not moving. If you're planning on handling him in any real way, the figure isn't for you. But damn does he look good.

I had him on pre-order, but decided to pass on it when the first reports of bad QC came through. $200.00 is just too much for a product which isn't practically perfect, even if you will hardly ever touch it and your purpose is only to display him.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think you just saved me $200. As badly as I want this guy and as cool as he actually looks, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself for spending that much money knowing this much is wrong with him. Well, gues I'll have to wait for 2012.

All the problems mentioned are design issues affecting every toy, rather than QC issues that affect some and not others.
All the tabs fit together for transformation, you just need to find the exact limb placement to achieve it.
The 'spoiler damage' is in fact damage to the slot in the trailer. The spoiler is yellow plastic, not plastic painted yellow. The orange that appears is paint from the trailer's slot.
I've transformed mine many times and posed and reposed him even more and he's fine. OK, he won't take a bashing like some Classics might but he's still tough enough to take transformations without damage if you're gentle.
His problem with not holding his guns and the front of the body falling open can be fixed with the superglue trick. The backpack falling open can be fixed with
these tips which are really quite simple to do.
I love my MP Hot Rod.

I would get him, in fact I did and I love him. He is a great figure just a little fragile in some places but not anymore than MP Megatron. I broke Megatron on the first Transformation and have yet to break Rodimus. Granted I learned to be a bit more careful after Megatron. I don't regret getting Rodimus in the least.

I know a lot of you might hate me for this but, I LOVE masterpiece figures and am trying to collect as many as possible. BUT, I never liked the character of Rodimus. He has a decent robot mode but I HATE his vehicle mode (for any series) didn't like his character in the movie (annoying) and the Rodimus MP is the last thing I'm dropping $200 on. Sorry and no offense to Rodimus fans. He just never appealed to me.

I do share in your HATRED of Rodimus PRIME...aka Crybaby Prime. I do like Hot Rod but considering the fact that he doesn't have to be in Prime mode for the Masterpiece figure I was gonna buy him out of sheer impatience. Now I've just decided to wait for Hasbro's release where he won't get the trailer and making him more Hot Roddish instead of Primish.

With the price rapidly decreasing (down to $120 on Amazon.co.jp at present) I'm getting more and more tempted to get him but no matter how great he looks I'm not going to enjoy owning him if bits and pieces fall off every time I pick him up, pose him or Transform him.
I hated Masterpiece Megatron for that reason as he's just too fragile and that's why I decided to sell him.
Even for $120 I would want a figure that isn't going to need lots of work on him (unlike Mykitron I have no skills whatsoever with remolding, gluing, painting etc) so I'll at least wait until Botcon to see if Hasbro at least makes an announcement as their version I'm sure will be better.
I have always liked Hot Rod but never liked Roddabego as he was called earlier in this thread and don't want the trailer anyway.
Come on Hasbro!!

I'm not much of a Rodimus Prime fan myself, but he is an iconic TF and Hot Rod on his own isn't really MP worthy IMO....so I find the trailer/base necessary. I also love the MP line, and while some of the aspects of this fig are less than ideal, it still lives up to the MP name and is a great figure.

Honestly, at the risk of disgracing my name, I want this for the Hot Rod mode, not for Rodimus. I wanted to wait for the Hasbro version, but it sounds like I've got almost 2 years to wait. So after BotCon I might break down and get MP Rodimus and just store the Winnebago and display in robot mode.

Yeah, pretty much this. If I had a spare 200 bucks to blow, sure, but my TF budget doesn't allow for ordering on-line due to shipping costs (and no, it doesn't save me on "driving around gas money", as I don't go out of my way to hunt, I only look when I am already at the store or passing them as part of my commute), let alone MP Roddy. 2012 gives me plenty of time to save up for him.

Call me negative, but does anybody really believe that Hasbro will fix all the issues discussed about Hot Rod?
I think it'll be a case of "lets get this guy into a box, put him on the shelf and make us some money".

Wait until the price comes down and then get him.

I find this figure hideously hideous. It does a good job of being cartoon accurate though. What turns me off the most is that box with wheels they call a trailer.
