A Fistful of Bumblebees

Does anyone who was around in 2007 during the Great Tulip Bumblebee Bubble find it ironic, looking in retrospect, at the HUGE DELUGE of Bumblebees that we've gotten since then? I remember many were scrambling and panicking, and ebay prices shot up to the high eighties and beyond at one point.

Yet we've had many repaints and slight alterations of the same mould since then.

And does anyone feel it ironic that, of all the Bumblebees made, not one power-that-is has thought, hmmm... MAYBE we could do a kickass Bumblebee, leader class sans limitation of need to pack electronics and maybe... oh I don't know... say TWO proper functioning hands, perhaps with individually articulated fingers?

Instead - speaking for myself anyway - we get what might be the best deluxe BB in Battle Axe BB with the axe blade facing the WRONG direction making it USELESS... and we get what could be the best large size BB in Battle Ops BB with one screwy hand.

And then have an official leader class BB in the DOTM line which might have been the last chanve to fix it all... which turns out to be the misshapen monstrosity... with ... wait for it... ONE ARM and ONE CANNON!

Let's forget the experimental Frankenstein that was Ultimate BB, which I still hold with some affection. That at least was a first time try, and has the dubious saving grace of being cute.

Yeah that was a crazy time, sadly I only got Ultimate Bumblebee and Old Camero Bumblebee, but I remember it was my choice. I also got Cliffjumper from then, and then my next bee would be Transformers Animated, the 2009, and the G2 (Thanks, Charles!), and looking to see what DOTM brings to the plate.

With some of the crazy attentions to detail they pack in to some figures it amazes me that they can make such colossal mistakes like that. Or using totally wrong colours.
