There's one big reason, and that is Transformers are Hasbro's 3rd best selling action figure line. For the last few years, the toyline has had success, but marginal success when compared to SW and GIJ. If I'm remembering correctly, SW accounted for 10% of hasbro's profits last year, while TF's got a 'showed growth' mention in the financial reports.

I do not think that will happen. Stores in my area are having a hard time keeping shelves stocked.
But I agree with Hot Rod and I think the tide is changing. In my area I can find whatever I want, practically whenever I want, because there are maybe 4 other guys who buy TF's within a population of 250,000. But with the movie figs out, I've not only seen empty pegs, I've seen kids, little kids, carrying the toys around. At my Walm-mart last night I saw a boy no older than 5 throwing a screaming fit to keep a movie Optimus Prime in the cart. That level of interest hasn't been around TF's in years.
So, the ability for the fans to make decisions on Transformers may change drastically in the coming months.
