What if the Economy got so bad, that Hasbro was forced to merge the TF & G.I Joe toy lines into one entity to help them sell better in
stores. what would your fan reaction be? positive, negative?

Personally from the way I see the situation,it's already being done in the media & toy lines.

Various Transformers toy lines are now including 2 to 3 inch sized G.I Joe designed human figures. examaples the $29.99 HA & some DOTM toys.

Getting G.I Joe vechicles that transform into sentinet transformers
robots would be various TF fans dreams come thru. having these toys
come with 2-3 inch G.I Joe humans would be another dream for some.

As far as the media side of things goes. in the micheal bay movies &
IDW comics were currently getting army guys who are getting starring
core characters persona's.

So from my stand point. what the difference if the current core cast
of army guys in the micheal bay TF movies & IDW get swapped out for
G.I Joe starring core cast of humans.

would anyone really care if spike in IDW got swapped out for DUKE from G.I joe.

What if the humans kids in the TF cartoons got swapped out with
younger rookie G.I Joe members, who were in the first stages starts of their JOE careers.

The only real problem I can see is the cobra element entering into the equation. I honestly don't like the Cobra bad guys because their superfiscial bad guys that would never exist in real life situations.

when was the last time a evil real world dictator was seen wearing a
metal face plate helmet? or how about having real world crazy ninja
villians. physco twins? a mad scientist who did cross dna experiments merging humans with animals or monsters? the whole cobra snake cult.Baroness,Serpentor,etc...

I suspose the merger might work if the COBRA element got cancelled out & didn't exist. or if the COBRA element got a bit more
realistic, tweaked & had less members. example: G.I Joe extreme having that bad guy pose a a diplomat/dictator & then turn into a bad guy for his personal agenda.

Maybe if they played up the realistic factor of the middle east evil dictators & gave some of them Cobra members names. like cobra commander being the evil dictator from Libya. having Destro being a evil dictator from the middle east that had his family generations own almost all the oil in the middle east. the Baroness who is suspose to be a USA spy agent but crosses sides to to cobra & pretends to be good to usa officials. Dr mind bender instead of being a bio-chemist. dr mind bender would be a guy who can create advanced military machines & bombs for the evil sides.

As far the the "JOES" personas goes. nothing too flashy, nor eccentric nor crazy. I like the way the "Joe's" Persona's are being handled in the G.I Joe Renegades cartoon series. where the Joes are all serious & realistic. I'd opt to get rid of Snake eyes as he's a very un-realistic military character who wavers on the ecentric side. but hasbro would never do that. Please no "JOES" clothes that look like the 1980's G.I Joe's "village peoples" outfits. keep the outfits semi serious but unique to each persona like G.I joe Renegades is doing in the cartoon.

Sorry,I just don't see the Cobra from the 1980's cartoon/comics nor
the cobra team from G.I Joe renegades merging well with transformers
in todays era.

I can envision various ( like 1 or 2 on each faction dide) sentinent transformers robots dying in battle on earth & having their sparks extinguished. It would be kinda cool to have the Joes & Cobra's pilot those sparkless TF bodies as their battle armor suits. their could be human entries/occuppancy into the robots in the car modes like HA has & human entry/occupancy in the robot chest cavity.
SIMILIAR TO THAT 1986 SEASON 3 TF G-1 "ONLY HUMAN" cartoon episode.

I don't think i'd be a fan nor want exo-suits type "avatar movie" robots type transformers.

I've liked G.I. Joe toys for almost as long as I've liked Transformers so I'd be pleased.

I wonder what a Transformers/G.I. movie would be like.....

This would be... terribad. I would probably send Hasbro a letter expressing my disapproval.

I think this should idea would work great for a reboot of the TF movie francise. after micheal bay gets done, hopefully DOTM is his last one.

I wouldn't be interested.

But I think it's pretty far-fetched.
  • Transformers is a pretty healthy brand right now, regardless of how the toys are selling. While I can see doing something like this in the "crossovers" line of toys, it's just too big of a risk to take with any of the core components of the brand.
  • If the economy is the reason people aren't buying toys, changing the brand won't help. People aren't going to starve or miss the rent/mortgage to buy plastic. It is far more likely that Hasbro would cancel underperforming brands (or put them on hiatus) than muck with successful ones.
  • According to IMDB, another G.I. Joe movie is due in 2012. Mucking with that brand before that cash cow lands would be silly.

Well, they would probably do a GI Joe crossover subline, but I doubt it would get a full line.

GI Joe and Transformers have each stood on their own for so long that they are too stable to have to be merged for any economic issue. It wouldn't probably be financial suicide if the 2 lines were merged permanently.

Aren't they already under one company? If you mean Gi Joe cross over Transforming vehicles, depends on the implementation (don't......the Star Wars way.....not that please!)

I was referring to a TF & G.I joe toy line & cartoon where they both shared a singular package banner & existed in the same story universe.

Examples: the toy line would be called Tran-Joes or Cobra-cons.

Examples: the toy line would have transformers robots that each came packaged with a 3 inch G.I Joe figure. similar to what the Human alliance TF line is doing.

Examples: The cartoon would have the autobots team up with the Joes. While the Dcepticons teamed up with the Cobra's.

uh...huh?

I too worry that the somewhat camp and unrealistic Cobra forces would break my suspension of disbelief in a show about giant, transforming robots from outer space. :BANG_HEAD:

edit: Other than that though, I don't hate the idea. In fact, I'd love it as a sub-line, and have been asking for it for years. As the only source of toys for each franchise, it'd have to be darn impressive though.

what gets me is that weve got quite a few molds that could be repainted into gi-joe vehicles but alas we get thor in all his technicolor glory.still it would be cool to see a subline a cartoon/movie though would be tough cause youve got literally 15-20 charachters and those are key ones like hawk, snake eyes, prime and megs to name a few and i cant see how theyd come up with a coherent plot with so many charachters needing their own time to shine.

Idea for the next purely hypothetical thread:
If HasTak were to release a line of invisible TFs, would you be happy or upset...and if happy, would you buy the repaints?

I think it would be awesome! I just don't know which would be the better resource for figs I was on the fence on, Seib's galleries or Peaugh's reviews...

It'd be nice as it's own thing (like Crossovers) and not forced upon both series. Ultimately one of the parts will suffer. Either you get tiny Joes ala the earlier Star Wars stuff or you get tiny TFs ala the upcoming Human Alliance stuff. Or you get "roboticized" Joes ala the Crossovers stuff, which does not satisfy the TF fan in me. But this would be fine if it was just a small thing.

Anyway, I like my Classics and not into Joes so if it was a big merger .... hate I guess.
